Checo a whisker away from MAX as NOR barges into 3rd then HAM moves to third with fresh tyres and his new PU. Where's Ferrari?

Yeah ferrari not looking particularly strong now.

The battle in q2 at the end for who goes to q3 was pretty close between TSU, RIC and HULK.
The midfield is pretty close. Interesting battles there.

RIC edged out by TSU for 10th but RIC missed out yesterday when a rookie took his place for FP2.

Max gets pole!
And PER 2nd, so a full RB front row lockout.
Very nice.
And indeed, Ferrari disappoints a bit, especially LEC.

The team really messed him up. He’s great at making up places though. Didn’t even get a second attempt.

Perez was a bees dick in difference. That was so ridiculously close. He ate a lion.

Daniel a lot closer. At least some progress.

Valteri the 3rd Australian did very nicely.

Also. I think I’m going to this race next year instead of Melbourne. Something different. I love Japanese culture. Can’t wait for the race in a perfect wine drinking Sunday arvo. (That’s Australian for afternoon)

''Not bad'' MAX says as Checo nails second to edge out NOR.
HAM sounds dejected as he is told he is half second to MAX.
Chas not happy in 8th as Carlos again takes the 'Matador' advantage for 4th

I don't think you'll be disappointed at Suzuka instead of Melbourne, Japanese are friendly I find and their dress for the race weekend is humorous and fun which gives Tsunoda a boost.

I'm not an expert in bees dicks, but say they're driving 300kph (~186mph) at start/finish the 0,066 difference is 5.5meters, so about 1 carlength difference over 1 lap.

Still, first is first. On the starting grid it doesn't matter how big the difference was.

Not sure about the eating a lion ha ha as MAX keeps the stranglehold on for 4/4 poles but we'll see how Checo handles his race and don't worry I'll be cheering for RIC also

I just checked that Max/Checo got FP3 also with the Mercs just behind though come quali their real time drop continues with a desperate RUS maybe getting a penalty for barging PIA in the pits exit scramble.

* Just heard that RUS has escaped a grid penalty.

This unsafe release incident happened during qualies, where track position is, in most cases, of lesser importance than during a race. Nevertheless, a competitor's car can incur damage if evasive action happens to be unsuccessful - it can compromise the competitor's qualies result and, hence, race start track position. Team or driver not paying attention in the pit lane during qualies: at least a fine should be applied.

But if this happens during a race, unsafe release could be a deliberate decision to win time and/or a track position: to penalize any such behavior IMHO either a time penalty, drive-through penalty, stop-and-go penalty or track position penalty (invert track position if possible) should be applied on top of a fine and penalty points, as a matter of principle. During a race, cutting off a competitor in the pit lane facilitates a driver to exit the pit lane ahead of a competitor or to make a competitor at least lose time in the pit lane: this behavior should not be condoned by the stewards.
