But this is all an aside. I can't control what others do. I prefer to back in for my own reasons, so I will continue to do so in most instances. |

I mean really, though. Even if you assume people are way worse drivers backing up: When do you want them doing that?
A) When going into a parking spot that is typically empty B) When going into the driving isle, which is typically full of pedestrians, cars, shopping carts, etc.

I don't back into a space often since I don't have a backup camera on my 328i. I'm used to having one since I have it on my X1 and even my 2002 Chevy Truck. I only park face forward if I can drive into it, not back into it.

I deal with government overreach on a daily basis, so we already had the infrastructure in place. An intern did the heavy lifting. |

Almost all the time. The times I don’t are when I need access to the rear like on a grocery run or shopping trip to the mall. Don,t want to have worry about an unattended cart sitting by the front or bags accidently hitting or scratching the sides trying to squeeze through to the rear.

There is a Panera Bread location in my metro area which actually has signs prohibiting this, and I can't imagine why. I either park elsewhere, if I plan to be inside a while, or I ignore the signs if I'm just running in and out. The problem is that the spots with the signs are in shade for more of the day than anyplace else in the lot. Grrr. |

Every single time except for angled parking. They're angled for an f*ing reason.
Otherwise, it is unquestionably safer to back into to every spot, irrespective of whether it's a parking lot or the street. Parallel parking is a required skill and one shouldn't be afraid to use it. |

Always, I found it much easier to maneuver into tighter spots, plus auto tilt down from the mirror helps keeping the car within the lines. Also, easier to come back out and less blind spot. The DRL helps telling others that there is a moving vehicle ahead, since stock reverse bulb is a little dim.

50/50 for me, based on my mood. I'm fine backing out when I need to, but I'm also fine backing in before I park.
I do think it's safer in busy parking lots to simply pull out than back out....but then, a lot of people aren't good at backing in so..... |
