Understood. When negotiating with Japanese business people you really need to understand their decision dynamics. Totally foreign to us in the USA.l

I just had that discussion with someone who had never been to Japan and had to meet with some over there. He was really lost and they took him out to sushi ( he ate it out of politeness). They didn't eat it and later told him it wasn't very good.

Ii amazes me how it's acceptable to go out with co-workers and get falling down drunk and say bad things, but it's ok because you were drunk. You cannot say the same things in the office, even though they are true and need to be said.


They were "saving face" about the bad sushi choice. They'd rather let a guest eat bad food rather than say they made a bad choice and, "let's get out of here."

My youngest daughter went to school at Kanasawa Institute of Technology and then later traveled around alone for several months. She says that a westerner cannot understand unless they live with them. The true thoughts only come out very slowly. It's a totally different culture than the USA and it's even much different from other Asian cultures, like Korea and China. It's actually much easier for Westerners to deal with China.

prep work for tomorrows shoot by jsophoto, on Flickr

putting on a pretty major operation tomorrow in an empty, powerless warehouse. probably 20 outfits or so, one model, only me shooting, an assistant for lights and protection, and an MUA.

Taking 4 B800s, a b1600, 2 B800Rs, and 3 Vagabond Mini Lithiums. It's a lot of space to light.

enough stuff for 2 full-size SUVs plus a trailer. generator, fans, work lights, tables, seating, a wardrobe rack, etc. hoping for the best. it should be a great time.


by the way, ryan, i love that shot. the green elements on everything in the ground (using a figure/ground analogy) are fantastic and her outfit really works well there.
