Same reason as for LCI differences. See for example here (from this dedicated thread):

G23 4er - 10/27
Interesting.

G20 3er started production mid-October 2018. So no surprise that the 7th generation 3er gets an update (Life Cycle Impulse) mid 2022.

G80 M3: production started in November 2020 and first deliveries are scheduled to start in March 2021. So it seems that the launch version will already be replaced by an update mid 2022 (LCI start of production in July 2022).

But then again, the same happened with the F87 M2: deliveries started from April 16, 2016 onwards, LCI happened in 2017 (because of the F22 2er LCI) and production ended at the start of Summer 2018 (replaced by the M2 Competition from September 2018 onwards - moving from N55 engine to S55 engine because of tightened EU emissions regulations).

G82 M4: the launch version is expected to stay around longer, with an update early 2024 (LCI start of production in March 2024).

It's great, thanks ynguldyn!

I noticed the X5 separate competition models (vs comp package) have disappeared ... are those X5 comp models now dead?

I can't remember what data I based my old statement on, but while rewriting the top post I rechecked everything, and I now doubt that will actually happen - so, removed during the edit.

I'm amazed you actually noticed it.

Thank you. Am truly grateful for you sharing your knowledge.

Was wondering if you see any LCI timetables being moved forward or backward given the chip shortages and knock on effects to production/deliveries?

As the 8 series are receiving their light updates in 3/22, will they receive the new engines like S68 that X5/6s are getting with their LCI?

No. New engines are not "light updates", I would've highlighted them.

Well,Well,Well,Well.

Yes that is an X1M. To accompany the X1 xDriveM35i

With everyone distracted by The IAA mobility. Super sleuth Wilco Blok caught these on the move. I reached out and the car they were "seriously considering" has moved forward to production status.
It makes sense when compact performance SUVs are popular with the GLA 45 AMG and Audi RSQ3 and Sportback models and the VW T-Roc R. Makes perfect sense for the X1M to join in the fun.
Engine still should be a four cylinder turbo mated to awd BMW xDrive.
No specifics yet but that should filter in the next few days but expect close to or around 400PS? Competition model?

Great information and very much appreciated.

To the OP I noticed that you had heard/seen very feint reference to a G42 M245i but that mention has been removed during your latest update. Is there any reason for this or perhaps an update for the LCI in 04/25?

Also the comment that the drivetrain/suspension in the G87 M2 as being the same as the G82 M4. Does that mean that the M2 will have the same power outputs as the M4 or detuned? Thanks.

I removed it since we now know that it's a M240i, and I can't say anything about LCI yet.

Not known yet, will likely have the info in a month or two.

Thanks again as I'm struggling holding off ordering a M240iX now after seeing the real world pictures and videos but your info on the 08/22 introduction of the RWD M240i and iDrive 8 upgrade is making me wait. And with the G87 M2 only a few months after that it might be worth waiting just that little bit longer again just depends on the price of the G87 M2 in the UK.

Will eagerly watch for more updates. Keep up the great work.

Note that the M240i will be immediately available after SOP, while the G87 will very likely get a delayed "market introduction", so we are talking more like 9 months later I would say.

Makes sense as the M240i is just the RWD version of the M240iX rather than the all new M2 so presumably easier to add to the production line. Also the UK official on sale date of the G42 is late January 2022 so gives some time to see and test drive a M240iX before ordering a MY23 M240i whereas it's going to be even longer to see/drive an M2. The added wait and cost makes me more likely to go with the M240i but just interested to know how much HP daylight there's going to be between the B58 and S58 in the M2. I'm also currently driving a MK8 Golf R and, software issues aside, I'm missing a 6 cylinder coupe more than I thought I would and want to get back into one ASAP.

What about G61 BEV for Europe then? Or is BEV for G60 only?

It never left, at least for the non-M 3er models. The ship has sailed for the 4er and M3/4.

It's a bit of a shame in my opinion that the G31 is available as a 530e only whereas the G30 is available in 545e as well.

It'd be nice to see a more powerful PHEV option for G61 as well as BEV options for the touring.

I guess it's by design, the touring is only available up to 40 level (540i/540d), so the 545e touring would fall out of line
