I think it's to disconnect the sway bar for more articulation. 4WD.....

I was kidding, but thought it was cool. Totally makes sense disconnecting the swaybar for a 4x4, and cool it can be done via a button. It must be a pretty beefy mechanism, seeing the force that goes into the end links.
