The MachE has the same problem. You wouldn't believe the stupid arguments I got into with MachE owners on their Forum about adding a maintenance charger to the 12V (LVB - cool acronym for low-voltage battery) to keep it topped off when the MachE was in storage. One guy insisted it would eff up the MachE's charging history of the LVB and cause it not to charge the battery when driving. Lol.

I don't know if it's a model S thing or if he has an older model S, but on my model 3 the 12v battery is easily accessible under the hood. There is also a connector behind the tow hook cover that you can use to open the hood if there's no power.

I have also not had any issues with it draining the 12v and my car sits for months sometimes. I do leave it plugged in and don't charge it to 100% so maybe that's why. Also I think on newer models they have moved to lithium batteries for the 12v also.

They call them estate cars or 'shooting brake' for Jaguar lol over here but in Poland,Germany and maybe some of Europe it's mostly kombi I think, short for kombinazion. In America I've heard 'mini van' being used a lot but rarely midi van for the larger vehicles and not sure what for Canada.

I was going to put M GUY's clip of what the recent poll news in US would mean for EV's and other connected to it stuff but can't for obvious reasons.

Better get rid of your smart phone, toys, smart watches, tools, computers, cameras, tablets, etc... because that's bound to be 95% of what was in that factory. Not many car batteries being recycled yet.

still scary stuff, hopefully they can get some better safety protocols in place for recycling centers after this mess.

Love them or leave them....My 2 cents after 20 months of ownership of my M3P

By far the best daily I've ever owned..... over 20K miles so far with zero issues and zero money spent on maintenance besides the tires I recently replaced

Gas prices are still stupid here, so having solar with home charging and free charging at work(when a spot is available) has saved me a shit ton of money..
I did the math and it works out to over $4000 in the 22k miles I have put on the car in the last 20 months in just gas... that's not including what I've saved in oil changes.

The creature comforts of things like autopilot, adaptive cruise control, having the ability to have your car warmed up in the winter or cooled down in the summer before you get in it by using an app on your phone is one of my favorites.

Now, I realize not everyone is in the same situation or have gas prices that average almost $5 per gallon in their area, so take that into consideration.

These cars make great sense to some people, but if you don't have access to home charging, I would't recommend one....

I have taken a couple road trips and it isn't as bad as some would make it out to be...sure it is going to take you a bit longer, but not much and you can always try to just time it to grab someting to eat or get a coffee and it will be charged and ready to go by the time you are done.

With it's insane 0-60 acceleration(3.1 sec) along with its tight steeering rack and low CG make it a fun car to drive when you want to throw it around now and then or embarass the Challenger/Mustang driver when they try to test you at stop lights...lol

Like I said, they aren't for everybody, but if it works out for you like mine has so far...they are great!

Was looking at the price of the 3 performance. It's a lot of car for the money. Ice purist or not. Cars are getting crazy expensive and I was surprised at what the get with Tesla. My commute is only 6mi each way. I'm not really getting the chance to rip on it.

Driving the wife's X5 is so nice with it active driving functionality. Takes a lot of stress away.
I the the m3 long range is in the 40s. Pretty nuts when you consider the tech that you get.

The size of li-po battery matters, you can't compare a Mac battery in a lap top to say an EV type size battery that can erupt at any time in any place, while charging, not charging, in a collision or just plain parked up in the sun or rain lashed and seemingly part of the landscape before the unthinkable happens.

Yup, there’s plenty of posts online showing how quick and easy it is to use the manual release to steal what owners keep in their frunk.

Of course the size matters in how long the fire might last, but this is a recycling facility that likely has hundreds of thousands of small batteries. One catches fire, they all go up in flames.

If you think your phone or your laptop battery is safe, it's about as safe as every EV out there. Many houses have burnt to the ground from phones, electric tool batteries, bike/scooter batteries, etc. It's an inherent issue with current battery tech, not just EVs. The cheaper the more risky, and those are more likely to be in small devices, not EV's.

6 miles is perfect for an EV, and killer for ICEV.

6 mile commute each way, I would just get a plug in hybrid. And by get, I mean lease one for like chump change.
I picked up a new Wrangler 4Xe, 27 miles of electric range means i'm filling up like once a month. My first gas tank, i'm trying to get 1,000 miles. There's a guy with a G80 and the 4Xe and the most miles he's gotten out of one tank of gas is 1200. Plus it's on 33s and a blast to drive. For $350 a month, why the hell not?
