If not you will very likely be getting a call from your credit card issuer about the strange charges you have been making. Ask me how I know.

As a junior in high school, buying a British .303 Enfield army surplus rifle for $35 by mail. Only requirement was that the check clear the bank.

Only gun I've ever owned was a "Smelly." Short Magazine Lee Enfield. .303 with a sporterized stock, so it looked like a .30-06.

It got shipped to Germany with my household goods when I was in the Army. It spent 3 years in the unit's arms room, untouched. When I got out of the service in Germany, I couldn't own it as a civilian, and the Army wouldn't let me ship it back to the U.S. because it was considered a military surplus weapon. Serious Catch-22. I had to do something with it, but no one could tell me what legal remedies I had. Finally another soldier offered to take it. I told him the problem he was going to have with it when it came time for him to return to the U.S., but he said he'd deal with that when the time came. I heard a year or so later that he packed it up with his skis in a ski bag and sent it back with his household goods.

I was an Aviation Ordnanceman in the Navy so.. access to all kinds of weapons. In 1969 we were aboard the USS Enterprise in the Gulf of Tonkin kicking ass and taking names. One of the guys in our shop who shall remain unnamed, specialized in the Colt Mk12 20mm cannons that our A7's carried. He could tear them down and reassemble them in his sleep. He said he was going to send one home and he proceeded to do so. He would pack up various pieces and ship them off to his brother in (very rural northwestern state). Eventually he managed to send the whole damn thing with 100 rounds of ammo. Keep in mind that this was 1969 and the post office paid no attention to what was inside the boxes they shipped. His brother sent pics of a car he had destroyed with only a single round, and unnamed sailor was really pissed that said brother did not wait for him to get home. I never knew what became of him, but I bet he had a lot of fun.

I read somewhere that a surplus P-51 Mustang could be picked up for $2000.00
right after WWII ended. What a deal. Existing Mustangs are now worth a
million bucks or more.

My father was a GM aboard the USS Tom Green County. I know much time was spent in the Mekong Delta. Also, his ship was there until the last days. Our family has pictures he took during the exodus, many pics of helicopters being pushed off carrier decks. He spoke very little about his experiences.

What my family does have from Vietnam (post conflict) is a compass. In the early 80s, father was stationed aboard the USS Towers. His ship picked up Vietnamese refugees. As a MAC, he was responsible for processing these persons. The skipper of the refugee vessel carried aboard a compass. During the interview, skipper stated he was grateful a USN warship rescueed them, he then gifted the compass to my father.
