How can you guys definitively dislike or like a vehicle off only one picture…that’s also at a weird angle. I’m going to wait for more photos before making up my mind but props to BMW for being bold and trying different styles.

Im going to hope that the camera angle is making this look worse than it is.. its still probably better than a lot of recent BMW designs though despite this little kidney looking added on.
I *really* hope the Neue Klasse concept didnt go to a car clinic, and marketing feedback was that people didnt recognize it as a BMW; so now they are beating us over the head with a kidney grille to "make it a BMW" would be a real shame because the concept car's front looks fantastic. Its new, different, and it integrates the engineering requirements for driver assist sensors, etc. and yet to me it still has done of BMW DNA in it. |

Of course this is a nod to the old original design which helped put BMW on the map.
I just wonder how this front end is going to look with a front license plate.

Personally I think this is a good direction they’re going with the Neue Klasse styling. It shows a design similar to what the early 80’s BMW’s had. A very Prominent shark nose slopping front end. The kidneys are smaller like in the 80’s and top horizontal bar which includes the dual lights resembling headlights looks cool.
Instead of lines for headlights why not just make them rounded out like 80% half rounded headlights to really capture the retro loved BMW design that made them famous.

Nice airhead. That’s one of the great fairings. I used to own a /6 with an S fairing. Even as I moved up to more modern Beemers, I kept that airhead for decades. The reality is that the days of the ICE engine as the dominant mode of surface transportation are numbered. Will electric cars supplant them? Hydrogen? Something else that we don’t even envision now? Better mass transit? Who knows. Most people in the U.S. don’t use horse and buggy as the primary mode of transportation (the Amish excepted). Essentially no commercial aviation use piston engines in their aircraft. Life changes. Technology changes. I thought my next car would be an EV. Then again, I didn’t think that my ICE would be totaled earlier this year. EV cars don’t yet do what I want a vehicle to do, especially since I don’t have ready access to a charger where I live. So, I guess that my next car may be an EV, perhaps one of these newfangled Neue Klasse X ones. I’m just waiting to see a Neue Klasse X prototype with styling elements from an Isetta….

All these elements: grilles, enclosed headlights, kidney beans - they should be thrown in the history bin. They were once functional and essential elements of the car, and are now obsolete. Cooling needs can be satisfied on an EV with discrete elements in the lower part of the body. Kidney beans are now only useful in the kitchen. And the advent of LED lighting should give complete design freedom for the front end. Lighted infinity mirrors for headlights and grille? That concept was cool for about 30 seconds when it came out, and is now a staple of karaoke bars. Instead we get these strange mismatched or downright grotesque designs lacking any creativity. Who wants their smartphone to look like a cross between an old TV set, a cassette tape and a radio receiver?

Not what I expected but I don't hate it. I would need to see the entire car before a final judgement. This or a Rivian R2 as my daily and the M2 for moments of need.

I like the idea of the small retro grill. The concept is cool. They could do a lot with that. But the giant headlights across the front look terrible. I hope the final product is better than that. Much better. I’m also not a fan of screens everywhere inside. I can keep my Tesla for that. I want the BMW to be more of a cockpit. I think Porsche has the right balance for that.

There's no way I would ever buy a BMW with a Tesla-like interior. The day this happens, I'll just switch to a Chinese car and save loads of money in the process.

Quite a few EV consumers waited for BMW i4 because they did not want Tesla-like interior. If i4 M50 were offered with sold state batteries, I would buy one shortly.
I hope BMW product planners provide a proper cockpit for Neue Klasse generation of vehicles. Counter point: Ineos Grenadier has plenty of buttons even above the driver and buyers do not mind these buttons at all. |

The G series designs are pretty good, I dont how you can compare this “thing” to the G series. M340 one of the best looking BMWs right now alongside 8 series, outgoing M5 etc. Im guessing your reffering to the G80 and G82 but even those are not bad. G22 not my cup of tea but much better than whatever this is.

The " lights as the grille " look as the horizontal Kidneys in the New Klasse sedan works in my humble opinion... so clean

I think it looks promising and interesting, I am honestly more concerned about the interior and the touch-screens. Imagine if they could do a modern interpretation of the interor as well, but bringing bring back buttons, knobs etc paired with modern technology, screens, touch and what not.

I see a lot of the (old) new class coupe design in this front fascia
I actually really like this (new) new class, it ties in some lesser known, at least in current times, historic design language into the next thing. |
