3 on the tree and A/C was a rare automotive luxury. Heck, we didn’t even have it in the elementary school I attended in Dallas. I don’t know why I would have expected it in a car.

I can remember trips in the car with the windows down, still very hot air coming in but at least it was moving. Sitting in the back of the station wagon, in the fold up seats. Stop for gas, under $0.35/gal and parents agitated about how much it was costing “these days”. Get a coke from the machine and it was warm because the vending machines were not yet cooled. A candy bar from a machine in summer was a “chocolate mess” because those weren’t cooled either.

I was already old then. Two OPEC oil crises in the 1970s led to gasoline rationing. I’m too young to remember the rationing of the WWII era, although my parents experienced it.

I remember playing this in 1981, before I discovered Galaga, drinking a Mellow Yellow. It let you play up to 3 balls at once.

145 HP with an automatic transmission and pretty heavy.
The only one with a little grunt was the Mecham. It was almost my first car but the interior looked and felt like it was put together out of lego blocks. I think it had something like 175 to 200 HP.

I ended up with the Scirocco. Only 75 HP and almost as fast as the Trans Am.
