It's the announcement of BMW's expansion of the Spartanburg plant to cover the X7 production. I doubt it if they start manufacturing the 3 series here and it is extremely unlikely that they would manufacture the 5er here. Although, I wouldn't be shocked if it's an announcement of both the X7 and the 3 series.

I was about to write the same exact thing
It's either this or the new MM models For BMW fans that think the m235i is not m enough They will have double m models Still unclear if it will be m235i or mm235i

I was just making fun of the news haha, I can't even begin to discuss how pissed people would be if there weren't any RWD bimmers by 2015. I was indeed exaggerating, but hey, it was worth a thought!

I don't think it will be to expand to a mainstream product like the 3 series. I suspect it will be something electric or hybrid to get some of those Obama green initiative dollars that the administration loves to throw around

I hope the CEO Resigns, as BMW has been going down the tubes in quality, customer service and support. They make more cars in US now, and yet they still charge pretty much similar prices as they did when they made them in germany. The 2006 X3 was the best X3 I ever owned, a tank on rails. The 2013 X3 is a mess... squeaks, rattles, steering issues, recall for break issue, recall of suspension issues, premium speakers burning out within 6 months of use, cracking and poorly designed sound balance, too shrill on the highs no matter what you do. Customer support could care less, biased engineers who don't know simple mechanical questions, and financial "bribes" to get you to sign liability releases on damages they can't or won't fix.
I cannot wait to get rid of my BMW. Audi RS8, here I come. |

Data can be fake, real life experience shows the cars made in USA are indeed inferior. I had a X3 made in Germany and a 2013 now made in USA, the new one is a piece of junk... Any BMW lovers want it? Fully loaded... I'll give good price.

Sorry to burst your little bubble, but your older X3 wasn't made in Germany. It wasn't even made by BMW. It was made under contract by Magna Steyr in Graz, Austria. The location of the Steyr plant is closer to the former Soviet Bloc than it is to Germany. So yeah, please tell me how your "German made" X3 was so much better.

I'm not trying to say that American cars are more reliable than Japanese cars or any other cars. I'm simply stating what the Japanese have learned - as long as the design and systems are in place, US workers can actually assemble higher quality vehicles, not lower quality. |

Well to be fair, Graz is only about 240 miles from Munich, and much less than that to Germany, whereas Spartanburg is about 4,700 miles, as if proximity to BMW HQ actually matters, but I'm just pointing it out. And though proximity to Eastern bloc countries is probably just as irrelelvant, pretty much any BMW made in Germany was made closer to a former Soviet Bloc country - so I'm not sure what you point was there?
