I almost bought in to the whole flat earth society thing until I heard the founder boast about having members all around the globe. That kinda ended it for me.

I also liked Bosch, but haven’t kept up with those. I have a hard time with Clancy sometimes. He tends to get into so much technical details due his background, he loses me.

Did you ever read Nelson DeMilles John Corey series? Or Greg Isles Penn Cage series? Reading season is almost here. I love sitting outside in my lounge chair in the sun with a good book. I don’t read too much in winter.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I haven't read anything from those authors yet, but I'll add them to my list.

A couple other series I enjoyed were the Scarpetta series by Patricia Cornwell and I personally liked the Michael Bennett books by James Patterson more than the Alex Cross series.

I fixed an old Kindle for a coworker. She had already purchased a new one, so let me keep it, along with her Amazon account on the device. So at work, during lunch, I read all her books. I've read quite a few Scarpetta, and am now stuck hopelessly on the "Goldy Shultz" by Diane Mott Davidson. I'm on book ~13-15 right now, with at least 4 more queued up on that Kindle.

Wait, this is the confession thread, right?

I read Scarpetta years ago and really enjoyed the books. But then it seemed that Cornwell was using words to fill pages instead of telling a good story. The last book I read, she went on and on about ingredients in something she was cooking but the story line sucked. I’ve read the Patterson Bennett books too.

Another great series is by Don Winslow. I mentioned it earlier in this thread. It’s about the Mexican Cartels and DEA. I read alot in summer. I can go through 3 books during my girlie beach week.

Starting "for whom the Bell tolls". The Hemingway series on PBS is kind of boring.
Recently finished "starship troopers", so much better than the movie.
Other good reads are Captain blood, obviously. Gorky Park is an outstanding book, if you like mysteries And political drama. Huckleberry Finn is also always an amazing read.

I've only read it about 20 times, might be ready to pick it up again!

Am I the only one who develops distinctive voices for all the characters, and then read in their voice?

Also, my wife just introduced me to a "virtual library." I had no idea this existed. She picked up a library card a little while back for our local branch. Now I feel like an old man talking about this confounded technology, but we can check out books for free from the library and just read them on the iPad with our library card. Whoa!

"Sometimes a Great Notion" Ken Kesey

I read this way back in HS. I want to re-visit this summer.

"“But if the strength ain't real, I recall thinking the very last thing that day, before I finally passed out, then the weakness sure enough is. Weakness is true and real. I used to accuse the kid of faking his weakness. But faking proves the weakness is real. Or you wouldn't be so weak as to fake it. No, you can't ever fake being weak. You can only fake being strong. . .”

Wiki:
"Sometimes a Great Notion is the second novel by American author Ken Kesey, published in 1964. While One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1962) is more famous, many critics consider Sometimes a Great Notion Kesey's magnum opus.[1] The story involves an Oregon family of gyppo loggers who cut and procure trees for a local mill in opposition to unionized workers who are on strike."

So....any good fiction suggestions? I'm bummed. I pre-ordered Nelson DeMille's new John Cory book back in January. It was supposed to be released early June. I was hoping I would get it in time for my annual beach week. It's been delayed until late this year.

I need some new material. I read two books at the beach last week and both were disappointing. One was the latest Grisham "A Time for Mercy" and the other was a Baldacci "Daylight".

Whatcha got?
