While not the best photo in the world I took this with my phone at the Great Sand Dunes NP in Colorado. The park is an international dark park and I highly recommend visiting. Sits at an 8500' elevation and this is 2hrs after sunset. The photo does not do the view justice. Also was surprised how many shooting stars we saw as well. Not even during a meteor shower but just thanks to how clear and dark it is there.

Since its discovery in 1930, the dwarf planet Pluto has yet to make a complete orbit of the sun; Pluto's orbital period is just under 248 years.

It's all just so far away, IN A STRAIGHT LINE. We gotta learn how to bend/fold and then show up somewhere else.

It is indeed when you consider the following:

28 billion light years = 1.6460151 x [10 to the power of 23] miles.

10 to the power of 23 is: 100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000.

Pack a lunch and a change of clothes.

Or put another way: Pluto is just about to make its first orbital completion since the US became a country.

Regardless, it's a fascinating image. The left pillar is 4 light years in length just to put the size in perspective.

Whats the current scientific consensus, are the pillars gone or no? I've read that the supernova theory was dismissed, but I still find more articles about how they were destroyed and we will see them slowly disappear over the next 1000 years vs articles saying they weren't destroyed.

a buddy of mine recently captured this of Andromeda. Snatched it from bookface so image quality has been destroyed unfortunately.

He has been getting better and better at astrophotography. He has a few others of nebulae and the Milky Way.

I think humans have explored all possibilities about any intelligent life out there and the reasons we didn’t have contact. What is the most plausible explanation?
1. More advanced civilizations have become extinct.
2. They are watching us, but don’t want to contact.
3. Contact is not possible due to different kind of life forms.
Any other plausible explanations?

Statistically speaking, considered in perspective of the mind-boggling unfathomable vastness of the (observable) universe, with all its current science, mankind actually knows virtually nothing.

Science: an astronomer explains in half an hour the interesting theoretical hypothesis of physically flying towards the end of the (observable) universe in a constantly accelerating space ship. Spoiler: you keep flying into the big void as the universe keeps expanding faster than you - the event horizon keeps outpacing you.

One might say that only by using our imagination we can travel across the universe ignoring time and distance.

Yet here we are, alive and kicking, just a mere extremely minuscule blip on a massive time-line, that much is true, but capable of enjoying life.
