It’s probably because of the litigious nature of the US....they’ll roll it out in other markets to make sure everything deploys as planned, then make it available to the US market otherwise, I’m sure they’d be on the receiving end of one of those class action lawsuits.

I just got it on my G30 MY2020 (production month October 2019 with idrive lite) I had it done at the dealer in Denmark, i cant really see a difference..

Got the notification for 07/2020.54 upgrade today in both the car and in the app. Download in progress. 1.7 GB. Will install tomorrow.

I have a 2020 X5M Competition in Sweden with 11/2019 something. Not a 100% sure of the exact software version.

Not to let facts in get in the way of a good story but the EU is by far their most important market. The US market is one third of the European one.
BMW sold almost 1.1M vehicles in the EU in 2019 Vs 360,000 in the US.

Asia is now the biggest market.

To me, it makes sense that they would test it in Germany first, since they are based there. But other major regions should then get updates at roughly the same time.

Got the notification update today (I’m in the UK)
07/2020.54. Can’t tell you if it changes much because the mobile reception around me is so ropey that it’ll take a couple of days to finish downloading (the connected app doesn’t see the update)

My car screen said the software can be downloaded quicker on my mobile.

I went inside to get Wifi on my phone and on the BMW connected app (not mybmw app) Downloaded it. In the car, connected the phone to the car Wifi and it transferred the file automatically.

Screen changed to downloading from smartphone.

After it finished, you get the normal message about saying it will update when ready.

I think this means go for a 20 minute drive to charge the battery fully. Got home and stop. I had charged my car a week ago. Then off it goes, updating.

Software updated and working ok

When the update finished it showed a message for few seconds, saying there was a problem. Can't remember exactly what it said.

Then got a display on the speedo showing the car with all the doors, boot and bonnet open? I turned it off had my dinner and went back out and all good.

Android auto was a bit of a pain getting going. There's no instructions these days. After connecting and disconnecting, clicking around. Removing my phone at one point. I must have done something in the correct order as it came up and connected.

Samsung note 8 by the way.

Think I need to go and watch some YouTube videos of what AAuto can do. I was hoping it would read Facebook messenger and whatsapp messages out.

At the moment it doesn't seem to do much more than the BMW idrive system. I was listening to Spotify or Audible through the bluetooth connection before. Will persevere with it.

Haven't looked around the menus yet to see if all is ok.

If you ask for Sports mode, you have to activate it on the idrive! The old method with the button next to the idrive is quicker.

You could think of it as enhanced bluetooth, really. Just with a display and much higher bandwidth support. How useful it is depends on your use cases. App support is limited, but Waze/Google maps are very nice to have. While BMW's native navigation is very good, it can't match these two apps. I also love that it supports Poweramp, which is the music player I use.

Of course, it also supports the usual Google assistant stuff like reading texts. https://assistant.google.com/platforms/cars/

It was a bit tricky to get the update started on a X5M Competition. I parked the car and then I had to wait 30 minutes for cooling before I could start the upgrade. Now it is installed and I can only see 2 differences. Android auto that I don't use since I use an iPhone and an automatic feature to open drivers window at a certain location.
