Here's what my salesperson just sent. Reassuring that it's just a noise and not safety issue

Ohh! They took the picture of the screen haha.

Well, for what it's worth, I was told by BMW genius today that my car has an estimated dealer delivery date of 8/18 and that it "appears" the diff has been replaced. I've reached out to my dealer contact and another member on the forums to see if they can verify. Fingers crossed.

For reference my vehicle arrived at the port in Oxnard on 8/5 and my dealer is located in LA.

I think I got most of it...transcribed below for others.

FOR CUSTOMERS WHOSE VEHICLES ARE EITHER AT THE PORT OR AT THE DEALER AND CANNOT BE DELIVERED

At BMW, we are committed to maintaining a level of automotive excellence that exceeds your expectations. As part of ongoing quality control, BMW has initiated a service campaign to replace the rear differential in certain BMW M models. Under extreme driving conditions, it was discovered that a noise may originate from the vehicle's limited slip clutch pack. Repairs have already started and will continue through Aug and Sept. Repairs have been prioritized based on the original delivery date.

Awesome! Thank you.

That last sentence is what I just could not read. The "August and September" thing worries me quite a bit.

I'm done waiting. Cancelled my order, found an M4 at a dealership. Actually got a much better deal. Picking it up Thursday.

Sakhir Orange
Black full leather
Exec. Pack
Lighting pack
Drivers assistance plus
Black 19 in wheels
Cf trim and roof
DCT
CF mirrors and Gear selector

Brand new 2016 for $1k more than the one I ordered, which was MW didn't have lightin pack, drivers assistance, or carbon fiber mirrors. My original dealer says I can't have my $3k back, but I didn't sign anything, and if need be, lawyer will take care of it.

Thanks man, the more I look at it, the more I like the color.. What a frustrating ordeal. My original dealership is the worst group of people I have ever dealt with. They're in Chicago, and I will post the name on here if that is something that is okay and not against forum rules. I recommend nobody deal with these guys.

Finger crossed the people at the port are repaired correctly and swiftly. It's clearly easier to do a big batch of repairs at a few locations (ports) while you have the cars than giving them to the customer and fighting to get them to bring them back in for the repair. But BMW still screwed this up by keeping quiet about it instead of contacting the customers.

Congrats on making this hard decision, or maybe it wasn't so hard. I love the color selection over MW. I wish I could do the same by finding a M2 on a dealer's lot instead of the never-ending wait that I have been going through just to receive an allocation.

But wouldn't a car sitting in dealer inventory also be affected by the stop delivery? I've read in numerous posts that the cars getting priority are ordered cars and PCD.

According to the original bulletin only cars produced from May 12, 2016 through July 4, 2016 were affected. It's possible this particular vehicle was produced before May.

My M4 was repaired this past week and we have arranged to the the delivery at the PC this coming Thursday. I understand one of the delays has been the lack of a sufficient supply of the bolts used. They don't want to reuse those bolts once they have been torqued and then disassembled. BMW has been very cooperative with reimbursing me for the new airfare. Cars are getting fixed, so we will all get there. Hang in there.

I don't believe the dates are correct, mine was built on the 7th of July and has been stuck at the factory for 5 weeks

Is that when it started production, or finished? The whole process takes about a week.
