Why do EVs cost more to insure than hybrids in 2024?
06/24/2024
Based on calendar-year results examined by the insurance analytics team at LexisNexis Risk Solutions, EVs now have a 17% higher claim frequency and 34% higher claim severity versus what the firm considers “traditional segments.”
“Consequently, the number of paid claims, as well as the total claims payment amount for EVs has risen faster than the number of EVs as a percentage of the total PPA market over the year,” underscored LexisNexis in its report, out Thursday.
EVs aren’t all bad news to risk-minded insurers. According to the Highway Loss Data Institute (HLDI), EVs are stolen less than gasoline cars.

Michigan’s first electric school buses had a bumpy start. What went wrong?
Jun. 23, 2024
Replacing some of its oldest diesel-guzzling school buses with eco-friendly electric vehicles was an appealing opportunity for Ann Arbor Public Schools.
What they got fell short of expectations.
“The technology wasn’t necessarily ready for showtime,” said Jason Bing, director of capital programs for AAPS.
Bing is not alone in that assessment. MLive spoke with other school districts and reviewed documents they submitted to the state. The problems varied in seriousness, though even the minor issues stacked up.
“They have just not been dependable like the diesels in our fleet,” the school official wrote to the state in late 2022.
Electric buses retailed for about $350,000 at the start of the 2019 pilot program.
The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) paid about $250,000 to fund each bus through the $64.8 million Volkswagen settlement funds allocated to Michigan for the German automaker intentionally circumventing U.S. pollution laws.
That left districts to pay $100,000 apiece, which was $40,000 to $60,000 cheaper than the standard diesel bus. (only a dem politician could twist the math like that.)
That wasn’t the case for Ann Arbor. While a typical spring day may allow for 70 miles on a charge without a problem, the same bus only did about 40 miles or less per day in January.
At Three Rivers, the district eliminated most cold weather effects by purchasing electric buses with diesel-fire heaters that keep the batteries warm.

Tesla is being sued by owners because repairs cost a lot and there are long delays to get parts. Tesla makes their own parts and probably gives priority to making new cars over provding parts for fixing previously made cars.

Luvly O electric minicar

Don't let its compact size fool you. Measuring just 8.8 feet long and 5 feet wide, the Luvly O is lightweight at under 880 pounds. But thanks to its electric motor and 6.4 kWh battery, this pint-sized two-seater minicar can zip you around town for up to 62 miles on a single charge with a zippy top speed of 56 mph. It also has a trunk space of approximately 9.43 cubic feet.

The Luvly O's innovative flat-pack shipping model was inspired by IKEA furniture.
The Luvly O is built with safety as the top priority. The chassis is made of a special combination of padded aluminum and plastic foam, designed to absorb impact and keep you safe in case of a collision. Plus, it comes with a mobile app that lets you control everything from GPS location to door locks.
Time to section Ik ea boss.

I'm confused, isn't much of the school year during the colder months? I live in the country and a few of my retired neighbours drive school bus. I'm pretty sure they drive more than 40 miles picking the kids up and getting them to school. Is there enough time to charge before the afternoon pick up and taking the kids home?

3 electric buses gutted in fire at Ahmedabad’s Vastral bus depot
June 25, 2024
Three electric buses that were parked at Vastral bus depot in Ahmedabad were gutted after they caught fire early on Tuesday morning, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation officials said. No casualties or injuries have been reported.

The Ahmedabad Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) buses were being charged when one of them caught fire, with the fire then spreading to two other buses parked adjacent. The buses as well as the chargers have been damaged in the fire.

Do you think we will drop back to a pre-industrial era civilization due to EV battery fires or do you think it will much worse like a bronze age catastrophe?

Wearing gas masks working with these toxic gases would save lives but who would want an imprint on their face when they take them off.

People will probably flee to the hills at that point and just be focused on an agricultural subsistence.

It is clear that EV fires will likely destroy our fragile civilization. I am just wondering how deeply we will fall back. I think probably just to an 1800s pre-industrial level society. Then hopefully we will rebound. We will likely lose about eighty-five percent of the population in the US alone.

Maybe the government can use Operation Popeye and HAARP to manipulate the weather so the great conflagration of fires from EVs will be put out more quickly. Then we can eat bugs to survive.

I'm not a fan of EVs being forced upon us, but the level of hysteria, conspiracy, and anti-democrat politics being spewed by Car-Addicted and others is amusing, but not surprising either.

First you are always welcome to challenge the facts that on posts I make. Second it is amusing, but not surprising that you fail to understand where all this global climate change crap comes from and who it benefits.
If not for EVs being forced upon us I really wouldn't give a dam. People should be able to buy and drive what ever they want and I shouldn't be made to pay for it.
