https://www.cnn.com/2015/02/04/us/ne...ion/index.html It boggles my brain what makes people stop on the tracks. There are several railroad crossings in the town where I work. One is about 500 feet from a traffic light. I can't tell you how often I approach the crossing and some numbnut is stopped on the tracks because of the red light. I stay back until I see that I have enough room to clear the tracks. People are f'ing stupid.

My grandfather used to be a railroad police detective, so staying off the tracks was also drilled into me from birth. This picture is from a 2017 train-vs-forklift collision at a grade crossing next to a road that I used to drive on daily. The train was moving at 30 MPH, and all grade crossing signals were tested post-accident and confirmed operational. The forklift operator claimed that the crossing gates closed super-fast in some sort of turbo mode, which is laughable because they are gravity-drop with long counterweights on the other end of the arm that dictate the drop speed and make it easier for the motors to open after the train(s) have passed..... .

Well....did anyone ever check the wastegate on those crossing gates to make sure it was still functional - maybe the operator was right and the turbos on those gates spooled up to higher than normal pressures?? |

Another Florida FAFO moment. It would seem boat Captains don’t get to dictate boat stops either (…especially after kidnapping a few Southwest flight attendants). My significant other knows one of the ladies and flew a work trip with one of them a few days ago.
It’s 16 minutes long, but a good watch. |

I know two of the current fires are the product of arson. I’m not sure about the one in L.A. County.

….and this is exactly what I was talking about when friends and family show up at traffic stops. It’s always an officer safety issue. Had the suspect male been bigger/more aggressive and the mother been more aggressive (…or it was an aggressive father instead of the mother), we would be having a very different conversation right now…..and probably a dead/injured officer, suspect, or family member.

The officer already having a camera rolling makes the final gem even richer. (I couldn't get past that one; it's just too sad seeing people behave this.) I know I shouldn't laugh, but still...

I remembered you posting about family at the scene escalating things when that video popped up in my YouTube suggestions, and figured that I'd share it for those who didn't understand.
Final score: 1 - Fatass motherf***er with a small f***ing d**k 0 - Loser The sad thing is that the 17-year-old son was more or less compliant until his mother showed up and escalated the situation. It goes without saying that I thank those in the LEO field for their service, because I certainly would have depleted several taser batteries in a situation like this.....

I will never understand why there is such a lack of respect for other people. That includes police officers. They don't get special treatment from me. They get the same level of respect I give all people unless they do something to lose that respect. And performing their duties isn't an action that should cause loss of respect. Not their fault if I was being a scumbag breaking the law.
It is a societal break down where people do not respect others now and seriously disrespect law enforcement. For no reason. I'm sure there are bad cops and some do things that are wrong. But I suspect MOST interactions that go south are instigated by people that think they are above the law. Luckily for me - I've never been caught being a scumbag breaking the law. And any lawbreaking I did in my youth (fast driving, drinking, experimenting with drugs) is way behind me. Now my biggest worry is I still drive a little over the speed limit - allegedly. |

Train versus motorcycle fatality up in the Adirondacks last Saturday. Harley rider slammed into the down crossing gate in broad daylight, and then the train finished him off.....

Yesterday was horrible. I responded to, and had the handle on, a call where a mother accidentally ran over and killed her 5 year old son with their newly acquired Rivian R1S. I felt so bad for the mother.
