So just recalled another old funny "cop" story.
Early 90's, had a blacked out LeSabre with a hardwire cell antenna and a CB whip. I'm on a long run up interstate 81, a trucker route that runs on the west side of the Blue Ridge. Back then, you could go long stretches without seeing a single car.

I come up on two big rigs, and as I pass them doing probably close to or better than triples, I hear banter on channel 19:

"Was that a cop?!?" "Naw, that wuddn't a cop" "Sure looked like a cop!" "You sure that wuddn't a cop?" "I bet it was"

We had a position where we had to monitor the tower frequency. There was a tower controller who sounded just like Elmer Fudd! All I could here was cleared to land (whatever that sound EF made after his sentences)!

Where does this disrespectful practice of yelling "Bitch!" over and over at a poor LEO just trying to do their job come from? Social media? Some entertainer? The only thing it seems to accomplish is talking their way into handcuffs.....

No fear of punishment or accountability. They know we can’t do anything about mere words, so they mouth off. It’s the same people who, while free to move, do nothing…..but the moment they are in handcuffs they mouth off about beating us up, etc. etc…..yet nothing was done when they could actually mount an offense.

We’ve already been deployed so many times in the last 1.5 months. Ughhhh! ….and it’s an election year WITH their favorite devil Trump. It’ll be a ride.

That live TV show added a new department this weekend, Everett, Washington.

Their first on-camera action was a female officer in a foot pursuit. Instead of yelling a threat of tazing the fleeing suspect, she warned that she was going to use her BolaWrap. The hooks caught his leather jacket, which he quickly shed and kept on stepping.

The two LEOs in the studio commented that their respective departments didn't have nice things like this, and seemed to be grasping at thin air trying to describe how it worked.

Anyway, how common is the BolaWrap, and is it actually more effective than this use against a running subject showed?????

It is used regularly by LAPD, but we do not currently use it. I/we have experience with it as some of us were trained on it at LAPD’s academy. Sometimes it works and other times it doesn’t; I have body cam videos of suspects breaking free from the bolo. For a fleeing suspect it’s a nice tool to have to slow them down. It is supposed to cinch tighter if the suspect struggles to free themselves from the bolo device.

….in the VERY near future we will not be able to pursue stolen vehicles in California. The association of Chiefs and Sheriffs have decided it’s merely a property crime not worth pursuing because of the “danger”. Be prepared for us to do absolutely nothing about your stolen car because we will be hamstrung.

Are you referring to promotional positions or ideological/political/policy positions? If it’s the latter, I totally understand what their public positions are, but behind the scenes we are just a weak state. We pander to every interest group, activist group and succumb to social pressure instead of focusing on taking bad guys to jail and enforcing laws. This state is falling apart due to weak leadership from the top down, and that’s why criminals are running amuck. Being a cop has changed dramatically in four years.
