You Can't Use Ferries in Greece if Your Electric Car Has More Than 40 Percent Battery
28 May 2024

A bizarre regulation recently adopted in Greece prevents electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles from boarding a ferry with a full battery. Even half the battery charge is too much, so you better make sure to have less than 40 percent left when you check in on a ferry. The decision the Greek Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy announced was supposedly motivated by safety reasons. This means that anti-EV propaganda prevailed over facts, affecting everyone driving electric vehicles.

Truly very glad to hear that! Although perplexing. If you can see through the biggest propaganda effort in all of history, what's stopping you from seeing the next layer? Literally the vaccines were a DARPA project. I've seen the documentation. It's out there. Although for what purpose is anyone's guess. Excess deaths are still through the roof here in 2024, and cancer rates in younger populations are also through the roof. Hmmm... Not allowed to talk about that though, and no media coverage. They've openly stated their depopulation agenda (have seen this also, declassified CIA papers).... It's like you're already in the door to see all of this, but just don't want to go through it. Don't blame you. It's a dark path. Anyways, don't want to derail the thread more........

They should just make all the EV park last, so if one lights up, they can just roll it off ship and let it boil the water.

Of course! A little application by the ferry operators would have a fiery EV ejected saving the rest of the cars and possibly the ferry.

Who is going to buy a Mercedes -AMG C63 with 4 cylinder?? We are talking a car with price tag over $100000.

I would buy C63 with 4 cylinder Turbo in an estate version if it used non LiPo batteries. Mercedes -AMG is making the Hybrid correctly. Small displacement turbo engine augmented by electric power. Managed like their current FI power plants. Not like the stupid Hybrids that are EV with ICE back up.

Good idea but Merc could do better than a Darth Vader frontal.

Have you looked at the BMW M3 of M5 estate? Ugly is the rule of the day.

You should read up on their integration of that powerplant then in the AMG. I think Savagegeese or TH had a good show on it. In short, the hybrid factor is not integrated well and the extreme weight of the car coupled with the poor integration makes it a pretty poor car for an enthusiast. It's not that these drivetrains are inherently bad...it's just that Mercedes did a pretty crap job with it. I'm also all for the E63 estate versions, badass autos that let your have your cake and eat it and transport it all too, due to cavernous usable space with a hatch...but again, the 4cyl AMG C63 powerplant was not done well.

Not much information on the Mercedes-AMG C63 Estate and it looks like it's not available in the US so we will wait for the specifications. My point is that most current Hybrids are low tech con jobs. Nothing more than a bad EV with a ICE back up. Heavy, complicated and prone to high maintenance while only producing high mileage numbers when the trip is 50 miles under electric power. How many pure EV's would sold with those numbers?

While I am not a fan of EVs and the political ridiculousness that comes with them... i recently had a chance to drive the new 5 series back and forth between the EV versions and the gas versions... I can assure you that UNLESS I consistently travel distances over 100 miles on highways every day... there is exactly 0 chance that I am choosing the gas version... the EV is insanely torquey, has instant throtthle response and can easily get 290 miles of range... there is no chance this is replacing a V8 Vette for me nor a true M car... bur for a daily driver, it is arguably the ultimate vehicle if you can charge it at home. Once you get back in the regular 5, the gas engine almost becomes pointless and you wonder why it's even there... and this is coming from a former M car owner

ASAP, after hundreds of posts in this thread of how often EVs burn to the ground, and could threaten to burn down your house, you're not convinced yet that EVs are a threat to you and your family????

Well, I guess we're about to see 100 more posts, because you are obviously overlooking this safety hazard.

It is highly likely that EVs will burn our civilization to the ground and end all of us. Even though the data shows that EVs catch fire at lower rates than ICE it is imperative for us go on our feels and be scared of them.

Data, schmata...

If one wants to do data science, they must first learn about cognitive biases and how to correct for them, as most have an alarming lack of statistical intuition.

Data is not information, information is not knowledge, knowledge is not understanding, and understanding is not wisdom.

Data schmata is my creed as well. Well, I'm off for now. I have schedule two hours today to be filled with intense fear over EVs burning down our entire civilization and I am running a bit late.

All of your 'unless', 'but' and 'if' statements preclude me from getting an EV.

see that's the beautiful thing... that's fine... it means it's not for you and your use case... but because to me this isn't political, i could absolutely care less what you choose lol...

i am only speaking from a tech and daily drivability standpoint as someone who's owned incredible ICE cars... this doesn't replace a vette z06 for me... nor does it replace a car that necessitates consistent long distance (200+ mile travel)... however it absolutely replaces everything in between and especially mundane junk like Camrys and Corollas and 95% of all other cars on the road...

Have had AMGs and Ms only the past 15 years or so. Getting another S Plaid as my daily. It's been fun and a great everyday car for the reasons you listed. It's a joy charging at home despite the risk that it will burn my entire neighborhood down and be responsible for the loss of so many souls.

If you can afford it...
Corolla starts at 22k
Model 3 with government handout in the US starts at 35k, a whole 13k difference. I am not even going to discuss depreciation at this point, or the cost of a replacement battery which seems to be getting more common, YOU may not keep your cars long, but a huge swath of people do

I am just saying, 13k is probably a weekend's bar tab for you and many here, but maybe there is a reason why EV take rates have slowed.
