I didn't watch enough of Lucy and Ricky to remember their number. I had to look it up.

BE(achwood) 4-5789 was always my fave number.

Yeah, and no area code needed as part of dialing sequence.

If you wanted to dial long distance, it was operator assisted.

Mine growing up was OX(bow)6-2842; and we had a party-line. It could be fun eaves-dropping on others' phone calls.

Had to think about it for a few minutes, ours was EX5-0911 and was a party line also.

Neighbors always had dirt on Neighbors

We had a party line and yeah it could be fun, or annoying if you wanted to make a call.

Yes, they could be both, couldn't they. We'd listen-in as little kids but never really knew what the adults were talking about.

I just did a quick search and was surprised to see that the last party lines went out of service in 1991 in Woodbury, CT. There must be a story of some sort there.

Probably better you didn’t know. Lol

1991, huh. That’s the year I moved into my present home. Didn’t know they went on so long. Interesting.

Hi cmyx6go, check out the Serengeti glasses if you have a chance and see if they work for you.
These ones are daytime driving sunglasses, but where I bought them (Costco), they also had Serengeti clear lenses glasses for nighttime driving.

I'm impressed that all you posters remembered the prefixes for your phone numbers. Mine are erased from my memory. On the other hand, we were always moving when I was a kid, so were having to learn the new number.

HI 37068. It started out as a party line, but when that ended my parents got to keep the same #. You would think that would be cool, but it came with a downside. Friends and relatives of all the other members of the party line who had their # changed continued to call the # for a looong time.

Around the time I was in grade school our phone number was 759W, and it was on a party line. Later, it was Li-3 (Liberty 3) something.

Lift the phone, wait for the operator: "Number please."

A quick Google search show that the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports there were still 420,000 telephone operators working sometime in the 1970s. Seems hard to believe there were so many at that late date, but what do I know.

I practice my mom/dad's number every time I go to Vons. Still in use for the discount, no downside that they are going to track me (THAT WAY) But we were full numbers.

805.983.6xxx

I still know dad's office number, and my godfather's

But I can barely remember my tech's first name . . .

What letter is on the 1 key?

The only numbers I can remember are mine and my wife's. Thank god for my phone and the contacts list or I'd be lost.

FAculty 6, 0-8-4-6. It was a party line when I was a wee tad (the Sendecki's up the hill were ALWAYS on it). Eventually everyone got their own line, and by some odd twist of fate that number remained with my parents. They subsequently moved twice, but still kept that number. 1950 through to 2015, their number never changed. Even when they traveled in the motorhome! My dad had it forwarded to his cell.
