You know you're old seeing your 24 yr old granddaughter get wide eyed as you tell her how your favorite concert was the Jimi Hendrix Experience in '68...how in '69 your friend's '60 Studebaker Lark broke down on your way to Woodstock '69..we had tickets, we never made it...and how you drove your VW bus to Watkins Glen to hang with 600,000 others for the SummerJam in '73.

It's amazing we're still alive! I remember when cars didn't even have seat belts.

My family drove our '65 Galaxie Country Squire station wagon to California sometime in the mid to late '60's. At that time, we travelled all over the country and dad had made several poster board signs for us kids to hold up in the back window so he could communicate to the person behind us. "Dim your lights, show how bright you are" was one of the signs.
Driving through the Redwood forest, a biker gang came up behind us. Me being the brat I was, I saw the bikers and picked up one of the signs. Dad was a fighter pilot in Korea and he had no use for the anti-war movement. The sign had a great big peace symbol and the caption was "Footprint of the American Chicken". My laughing and waving and generally having a good time in the back of the wagon just out of the blue got mom's attention. She turned around and 'bout had a heart attack. Mom's reaction made me wave and gesture at the sign even harder 'cause I knew she couldn't get to me. The bikers were Hells Angels. They were splitting lanes and moving kinda slow (traffic was stopped) and I got a close up look at them, I remember the patch. I had no idea who they were or what that patch meant. They paid that snot-nosed kid in the back of that family wagon no mind at all, which was probably a good thing.

Fast Times...
Was watching Fast Times at Ridgemont High with a young friend of mine. As is required, For that movie, we stepped out on to the balcony to smoke a doobie. As we talked, we discovered that the movie had been made before my friend had been born!

"People on 'Ludes should not drive."
I think of that line every time I have to drive in Champaign. Everyone up there, with the possible exception of Turkish Pickle, drives like they're on 'Ludes.

Rorer's or Lemmons, pharmaceutical or bootleg? Not that I have any personal knowledge of any of those of course.

It was a different world. I remember being really young and seeing one of my neighbors crawling in the middle of the street like a dog. She was shooting up heroin. This was mid 70s. Fast forward. I couldnt believe it when heroin resurfaced in the early 90s. I thought that died with the 70s. Sad. I read a book recently and it seems now heroin is cheaper than pills.

They all drive at 5 or 10MPH below the posted speed limit. And sometimes they just stop in the middle of the street to look down another street wondering if they should go that way. Or there will be a green light ahead and drivers will hit their brakes for no reason and slow down so the light turns yellow and they can stop. And if there are two lanes of traffic in one direction, like on Neil St, and there is a line of cars moving slowly in one lane and no one in the other lane, some slow moving putz will be sure to move to the open lane to make sure that lane is also useless. It's like they are all "slow racing" to see who can move the slowest.
