Bathing him not bad. Have one of those hand held shower sprayers in the shower. These are good to get in the ears, and clean those things out. Then I show him the door to go outside and dry off. In the winter I have a wet dog for a while though.
I did groom him for a while with a quality shaver, but honestly his hair is so thick I find it difficult. Easy to shave down to skin around his bathroom parts and ears, but to try to use a 2 blade on the body is like trying to cut the lawn with it.

We shaved our Maine Coon with a #2 guard yesterday. He is a huge cat, and all the hair makes him look so much bigger. We bathe him and brush him (My wife does), but matting still happens. We always find him in the bathroom on the tile as it's the coolest spot in the house.

Now ours isn't like Now_Rudi's cat. Ours is so laid back...it's like he is own a perpetual "high". When walking, it's in slow motion and you could set off an m80 firecracker behind him and he would not even flinch.

I have never seen a cat so laid back. About twice a month, he gets a crazy streak and just bolts around the house at full speed for a few minutes....then he's back to his normal self.

He didn't even seem aware we were trimming his hair. But afterwards, you could see he really enjoyed it as I'm sure it cooled him off tremendously!

Funny that you mention Hamilton and his aggression this morning. We had a "Come to Jesus" meeting this morning after he decided to make sweet love to my comforter and I tried to stop him mid-stroke. He turned into the feline equivalent of The Ultimate Warrior on me. He will be spending the day outside while I'm at work today. I, somehow, managed to make it to work without looking like I was sexually assaulted by a honey badger.

Our 9 month old labrador 'Alfie'.

Other wise affectionately known as 'yellow bear'.

To think I didn't even want a dog when the wife suggested it. Now his my absolute world and I love spending time with him. Such a wonderful natured dog - my best pal.

This is Chester. Dogue de Bordeaux. Goes about 160 pounds, and thinks he is a lap dog. First pic he is waiting for somethin' to fall off mama's plate, second pic he had just knocked over that pot and thought he should relax a bit. Remember Turner and Hooch? Yep, that's him. Same 'tude and slobber. He is only allowed in the Mazda3...

A friend of mine just sent me this pic of her new housemate. She's single...so she wanted some added protection.

That's awesome! I will say that if it is anything like Chester, she should have gotten a Rott for protection! He hides behind my wife as soon as anybody comes in the house!

My father passed away last year and I promised him on his deathbed I would take care of his 12 year old German Short-haired Pointer Jake after he passed. This dog was a 100% outside all the time dog since birth (had the condo of dog houses, but still....) so even though I have 5 acres on a dead end road - it was far less than the 160 acres he was used to patrolling.

Took a few months, but with his mild nature, advanced age, and fact he grew up knowing me, we made it work. He now enjoys the things that caused him stress at first.....like AC/Heat, riding in convertibles, sleeping on the couch, the fireplace, the new world of "treats". I'm lucky to work at a private company that allows pets and the office people love Jake on the days I bring him in. He will lounge like an office God by his windows and nap till one of the office people interrupt him to feed him some random treat.

My sister says "if Dad is up there looking down on this....I bet he can't believe his eyes!" LOL He is 13.5 years old now and still going strong. Except his gray face you would never know it.

Dog owners, have you ever thought about how effective your dog would be in the case of a home invader? I mean, someone breaking into your house in the middle of the night. Anyone have any experiences? I think my golden doodle might bark but then would probably start wagging her tail. My shepard I don't know
