Or you were over on the next street playing street hockey and your Mom had to yell for you to come home for dinner.

That was at the second house I lived in as a child. At the first place there were 3 of us who hung out after school -- two boys and one tomboy. Her mom had a bell on a post out next to the barn, and when we heard that bell we would hightail it back to the neighborhood. Good thing she had it too because at that place we could easily get out of shouting distance. |

...when you asked for a puppy/kitten for Christmas and Santa brought a pet rock instead.
I named my pet rock Sandy, because he was a sandstone river rock. He looked lonely and depressed just laying there in his box for weeks. When the ice melted, I took him down to the neighborhood creek and let him free so that he could swim with the other sandstone river rocks. I wonder if Sandy ever met a girl rock and had pebbles?????

It was listed on the papers included in the package by whoever came up with that viral product in the 1970's, sort of like Cabbage Patch Dolls coming with adoption papers.
I also had an invisible dog on a leash back then, which may only have been an Atlantic City thing protesting their no dogs on the boardwalk law..... .

Yes, it can be confusing:
A rock in French is a feminine noun: La roche. A rock in German is a masculine noun: Der stein. |

I'm way too old to waste my few remaining brain cells wondering how those languages with masculine and feminine nouns are being changed in the 2020's.....

Try conjugating a verb with gender-fluid nouns.

German nouns—for humans and objects—are all in one of three noun categories: masculine, feminine, or neuter. These categories are unrelated to human gender, sexuality, or identity and are purely grammatical. |

How about when your parents used ALL THREE of your names! You knew you were in heap big trouble when mom (or dad; but usually mom) broke out your middle & last names!
