^^^I saw this from our flight to Champaign from Chicago at 16,000 ft. I thought it was a couple of flights inbound to O'Hare. Then when they didn't change positions for most of our flight, I realized what I was looking at. Very cool stuff. Might have to try grabbing a pic of it tomorrow night *if* it stops raining here and the skies clear.

All this talk of conjunctions makes me wish for some clearer skies.
So here's one from earlier in the year - Venus, The Pleiades and the crescent moon. Taken just before moonset and around 2 hours after sunset, looking across The Moray Firth. Venus & Crescent Moon_1 by Alan Butterfield, on Flickr

It's amazing how fast they grow up. Just a week makes a huge difference.

Thanks Alan. It'd rained the night before, so even though the moon was relatively low in the sky, it was crisp looking.

That's my bare 500mm on a 1.6x crop-sensor 7D MkII. The crop in Raw conversion is around 30% and the moon was low in the sky, making it appear larger. You usually can't get good detail that low, but there was rain the night before to make the air crystal clear and the moon crispy.
Thanks for looking, Druu. Dave

This shot, taken yesterday, was on a long walk in Glen Affric, one of Scotland's most picturesque glens.
It is a 6 shot vertical panorama, hand held, and stitched in Photoshop CC. Glen Affric Panorama by Alan Butterfield, on Flickr

Great shot, Alan. Is it usual to still have snow on the mountains this time of year?

Thanks Dave. you're right about the tripod. But then if the light wasn't so good, an attempted pano might stand more chance with a tripod. But it's always worth having a go.

We do usually see some snow in the higher, north facing corries at this time of year. But I think the cold, wet late spring and early summer over here, has left us with more than usual. But of course, photogenically, it's a bonus.

Another shot from our walk in Glen Affric a couple of days ago.
Here we are crossing the Allt Coulavie. Did she make it, without getting her boots wet ? Err . . . well, just about Alt Coulavie by Alan Butterfield, on Flickr
