Advice from an old guy to another old guy: Get on Amazon and buy yourself a package of these:

Lights by Night, Mini LED Night Light, Plug-In, Dusk to Dawn Sensor, Warm White, Compact, UL-Certified, Ideal for Bedroom, Bathroom, Nursery, Hallway, Kitchen, 54838, 20 Pack.

They use 3/4 watts each. We put them in spare bedrooms, halls, laundry room, garage, bathrooms, walk in closets, front and back porch, kitchen.

They are not bright like obnoxious night lights. Just enough soft light to see where you are going and most importantly, stay oriented. Best $20 you can spend. Give it a try.

Younger lawn campers, you may try it too!

A visit with a physical therapist might be worth the trouble. I just saw one a few times for BPPV, and I thought she was remarkably knowledgeable and capable.

I remember those. Way before that, I remember rabbit ear antennas that we had to put tin foil on. I would stand by the TV and move the rabbit ears around and then slide the tin foil up and down to get the best reception. Then I would go sit down. I also served as the remote control when my dad wanted the station changed or the volume adjusted.

I remember rabbit ears, but also remember Dad going outside to rotate the pole the antenna was mounted on while Mom relayed when to stop through the window.

Wifey and I just started a 3-month fitness program with a trainer. Had our first real workout today. I'm hoping this will improve my core strength. Working with a trainer ensures I'll stick to it.

I'm reminded of the mute button hack from back in the day: wire a toggle switch into the signal going to the speaker and place the switch next to where you're seated.

Voilà – no more listening to some character shrieking at you to "C'MON DOWN!!!"

Please do and let us know what you think. Several friends and family members have bought their own after staying overnight at our house. We have about 10 scattered around the house. That adds up to less than 8watts.

We also keep one or two in our travel luggage. We plug them in in hotel rooms that are too dark when the lights are off to be able to see; much better than leaving the bathroom light on.

Go for it!

I was going there next. Once antennas on the roof became a thing, it was up on the roof we went with dad shouting instructions from the ground and mom inside the house to tell us when the reception was at its best. The tin foil was used still to wrap around the antenna wire to fine-tune the reception.

Let's not forget we had only 3 main channels and a couple of crappy ones. All the channels stopped around midnight when they played the Star Spangled Banner and then a fuzzy screen.

And as a career military man who spent multiple tours in the Philippines, Okinawa, Taiwan and Korea, we had only one channel: Armed Forces Radio & Television System (AFRTS) which was practically unwatchable unless you were into tips on wearing your gas mask, etc. Guam was better: I think we got TV that had been taped (in Hawaii) a day or two before and flown to and played in Guam a little late. Better late than never, I guess.

At least in Japan (Okinawa) the local broadcasts were NTSC, so our US TVs could pick up the local channels. That was important for Super Bowl, since AFN had to wait for a recording of the game to be flown up from the Philippines before they could air it for us.

In Germany, we called AFN by a more affectionate name of FEN (Forced Entertainment Network). Europeans use PAL vs. NTSC, so unless you had a PAL TV, it was just AFN or tapes sent from the States with the latest shows that were on there.

This has been an interesting year. At the beginning of the year after nearly seventeen years as a member of the forum I had five people on my “Ignore” list. Since the beginning of the year I’ve added thirteen. I suggest you add one to your list.

Now, get off my lawn! Buh bye.

edit: just to be sure this post is on topic. You know you’re old when…you have no tolerance for snide comments from snot nosed newbies who have made zero contribution to the forum.

Actually, my wife and I discussed this recently and decided that we do not need more "stuff" for Christmas; instead we will buy each other Shingrix. Voila! Problem solved -- at least psychologically.

(Of course, nothing is 100% and it is possible to get the Shingrix injections and then get a case of shingles. Aargh! )

True, and then the vaccination only lasts a certain number of years and you have to do it again. Double aargh! lol

Edit: "Research shows that in people with healthy immune systems, the Shingrix vaccine provides protection for at least seven years."

Oof, only 7? I think I got mine when I turned 60. I'll have to keep that in mind.
