Yup, that is a good one too and fun times with the kids can't be beat.

Super tele bokeh is only as good as a clean background. When I sit and photograph my hummingbirds there are cars and houses in the background. They let me get very close without complaining, so I shoot at 5-20 feet against shrubbery or a blank wall.

I'm shooting down in both the bee and hummingbird images. The bee is right by the street. The hummingbird is in front of prairie grass. I do lots of shooting with houses in the background, so I look for a tree or something and position myself to catch that for my bokeh.

Thanks Dave (and Kevin)

Ha, so my name has actually always been Dmitriy ... I've recently (since about November) started to embrace it again.

Those who know me as David can call me David, though I go by Dmitriy these days.

I'm easy

But, sure, it'd be great!

Pretty sure there is a baby down below now. Looked like she was feeding it last weekend. They typically stay very deep in the nest for the first week or so. I hope to get a view this weekend, but I may be booked with other stuff.

I always like this part.
Every year we have 2-3 nests built on our house by the Finches and I can't wait to see when they start to pop up. Neither can our cats.

That's why I don't try to attract the hummingbirds we have around here. I don't want them to fall prey to the cats. Bad enough the cats nail a bluejay or cardinal every now and then.

They only get outside if they decide to do a jailbreak. That has only happened a few times.

At your house and in the wild, with most species, more than half the young don't make it through their first week, if they even make it that far. Other birds eat the eggs and so do the mammal. Chicks seem to be real tasty. Anyway, I wouldn't take any blame for predators; however, if you put out a nest box, consider the cats.

The church at Ramsau, Germany during a stellar sunset. Taken on my recent ED trip. Many more photos in the blog in my signature.

After a disappointing evening on Monday, I went back to Portknockie last night as it looked so promising for a good sunset.
I started out in good light trying to capture some of the beautiful flowers on the cliffs.
Shortly afterwards, the haar rolled in, obliterating everything. So with no chance of a sunset, I was back home before 10pm.

Still, you got a great shot in fantastic light.

Robert,
Very nice blog. I'll have to go through it more thoroughly.
