I made the mistake of watching it. It'll stick with you.

Luckily, I watched it on my iPad so the video got a little pixelated at times. It helped water it down for me a bit.

If you were not horrified by what you saw in that video, you may have some repressed issues. Things like that are supposed to effect a normal person. I feel extremely sorry for anyone that grew up in a place where you were exposed to sights like the one in the video.

And it isn't rude at all to make an observation about me or my comments. Would you say it is in this thread specifically or in general?

I'm not going to say I wasn't affected by it, but it is not as horrible as every makes it out to be. I've seen shit just as bad in movies =/.

That's not a movie, that actually happened to a real person. Not an actor.

Have we really reached the point in our society where we have become so jaded that movies like SAW are confused with real life tragedies? What happened to empathy? Very disappointing to say the least.

some people have been exposed to this in real life because that's their job...paramedics, doctors, firemen, policemen, etc....it won't effect these people nearly as much as the average person

yea, kid jumped from some sort of boardwalk area, tripped and landed on his face on the dock below (40+ feet), falling into the water. Then the video cut to him laying on a bed in the ER but he was literally missing his entire face. There was just a big hole there and you could see into his (now empty) head.

It was definitely pretty fucked up and I felt bad for him, but I certainly had no trouble sleeping right afterwards. Other people were affected differently apparently...

Wow

I certainly felt sympathy and horror for the poor kid this happened to, when I watched this video.

That being said, from a medical point of view, I have never seen or heard of anything like this before. As horrific as it sounds, falling face-first was what prevented him from dying on the spot (although supposedly he perished hours to days later). The muscle/anterior bone structure of the face absorbed the force of impact and saved him from severing his brainstem. Hard to say if any/how much of his cortical brain is intact - it's possible that he destroyed his prefrontal cortex from the impact.

I was also shocked by the quality of medical care. Why was he intubated but not put on ventilator? Why was he not sedated in the ER? Etc etc

The link has some more information for those of you who are curious about the details like me.

Curiosity got the best of me and I finally saw it. Good Lord.

The medical staff that helped that boy deserve more respect than I can put into words, even if they may not have done everything they could have, as suggested by the previous poster.

RIP to the boy. I hope you didn't suffer as bad as I imagine that you did.

But watching it in a video and watching it in a movie is virtually the same thing. I understand that it happened to a REAL person, but that doesn't make it any more disgusting/disturbing than watching it in a movie. Now, if I was witnessing this in real life, I would probably shit my pants.

i think the most fucked up part is how is brother was the first one to get to him. I don't think my heart would be able to handle that.
