I have tickets to a special screening nest Saturday (Sept, 3)
I'm really looking forward to seeing it. "Senna" the movie comes to N.W. Corner! The Moviehouse and Lime Rock Park Join Forces to Bring “Senna” to Millerton, N.Y. The most talked about, critically acclaimed racing movie in years, the documentary “Senna,” is coming to the Northwest Corner of Connecticut. Well, six miles away, anyway. Thanks to the combined persuasive powers of Millerton, N.Y.’s The Moviehouse and Lime Rock Park, as part of the numerous events surrounding Labor Day weekend’s vintage racing extravaganza – Historic Festival 29 and the Sunday in the Park Concours – a special one-week run of “Senna” begins Friday, September 2. “Senna,” which the Los Angeles Times says is, "...a documentary with the pace of a thriller, a story of motors and machines that is beyond compelling because of the intensely human story it tells," is in limited, major-markets only release. (Click here to see the trailer at IMDB.com) But thanks to the efforts of Carol Sadlon, who with her husband Rob own and operate The Moviehouse, the distributor has agreed to bring the movie to Lime Rock Park fans. IN ADDITION, an extra-special showing has been arranged: Lime Rock fans are being given the first opportunity to come to a 9:40 p.m. showing on Saturday, September 3 (7:00 p.m. has sold out) that will have Skip Barber, Sam Posey and Bob Sharp in attendance, introduced by the mayor of Millerton, the Honorable John Scutieri. Skip, Sam and Bob will then hold a post-movie Q&A. For that showing, vintage cars will be on display in front of The Moviehouse and on the property directly across the street at Simmons Way Village Inn, Millerton’s historic and elegant Victorian retreat. The cost for the special Saturday, September 3 show is $15, and includes a “Senna” poster, a soda and a popcorn – and of course the chance to meet Skip Barber, Sam Posey and Bob Sharp. Note that this special show will likely sell out quickly, so do not hesitate if you want to see this special “Senna” showing.

I guess I'm late to the party as well. Although, I was aware of Senna's skills and that he one numerous Championships, I never really knew his bio. I was happy to see (1) copy of the Senna DVD at my local Blockbuster. I like the documentary so much that I bought their only copy. I had my girl watch it and she really got into it - even Jr. who is 2 years old - was glued to the race footage.
I can truly appreciate the passion Senna had for F1/Racing. His journey to the top while having to deal with all the BS that one often encounters in life when aspiring to reach goals makes it a story, that even those who aren't into motorsports, should be able to relate to.

It's still thrills me to watch formula one during the Prost/Senna period
I remember watching my first grand prix, it was Monaco 1982 I was 10, and woke up at 3 am to watch it (I was living in new Zealand at the time) I fell totally in love with motor racing since that day And senna was, and still is, my hero The things he could do with a car, in the rain, without ANY traction aids, still amaze me Of course if he was a member of this forum, he would have been blasted for turning off DSC

no disrespect, but how did he have so much trouble with the car in 1994? was it just that the car was so horrible even he couldnt control it? seemed like in the past he was super fast in the rain a far scarier proposition i would think than a bad set up. rain makes any car with 1200hp uncontrollable.

Senna, was always canvassing for safety. Frank Williams on the other hand wouldn't think twice about sending him out with sub-par and rush-assembled unsafe gear. He was the trouble with Senna's car. He booked it after the race with the black box tucked securely under his wheelchair. Dark player in a game in which Ayrton paid the ultimate price. |

it seemed the car was unsafe in terms of set up not gear or equipment. at least from what the movie says. he had no bruising or broken bones just a blow to the head from a freak suspension part. he just seemed like such a phenom that maybe he could overcome even a badly set up car.

It's unfortunate that only 1-2 races later Newey and Head were able to correct some of the bigger issues.

i thought these aids were just introduce the year before in 1993 and thats what made the williams cars so good for prost then they were taken back away just as senna moved to williams. so he spent 1984 to 1992 driving without them in the rain and all with no issue then when they get taken away after a short stint of use its a big issue. i may have misheard but thats the gist of what i thought happened which leaves me confused how he didnt handle the car just as brilliantly as before with no aids. again no disrespect just trying to understand better what happened. im interested and its a relatively new subject for me as i dont generally follow f1.

Senna a national hero in Brazil who will never be forgotten, I dig out the DVD once in a while to watch it for his brave driving, interactions with Balestre and giving warning advise to a just joining Schumacher who's confrontational driving would be not be tolerated by stewards in these times.

While others kept quiet Senna furthered track safety from what Jackie Stewart OBE was promoting in the early '70's to stop driver deaths.

Finishing off with Senna's 64th pole at the Pacific GP (before his final 65th pole at San Marino) beating the Benetton of Schumacher.
Senna was rammed off at the start of the race by Hakkinen and then hit again off track by a spinning Larini. |

This year is the 30th anniversary of the death of Senna on 1st May.
His grave in Sao Paolo is a simple one where upstanding headstones are not used on the cemetery grounds, unfortunately I can't upload an image of it. |

Here you go M5Rick. Ayrton Senna was my favorite Formula One driver. I can`t believe it`s been 30 years since his death.
