Agreed. I don't see how the G Series M2 will look as good as current generation M2.
No generation after the original looks the same. All generations after , are based always on the original. Look the E30 M3 . The original is where all began ! But im pretty sure the next 2 will be a great car too , and will follow the success of the original 2.

245 actually sounds nice to me. But it's funny how with say the E90, the top trim started as 330, then became 335, then in the F30 340, now M340. 1/2-series same deal.

I suppose the rationale is so people feel a pressure to get into the new model because the number designation at the refresh/redesign is higher.

One car I felt strongly about this was the E70 X5, particularly the M sport model. When it came time for its replacement I had no idea how BMW was going to top that design. Now the F15 and G05 look nice enough in higher trims, but in no way can they compete with the E70. It was the perfect amalgamation of BMW styling elements into an SUV form in my opinion. Still looks modern to me.

Hmm! will have to wait for more spy spots, at the moment it doesn't seem quite as sleek as the current gen F22.

I've never been a huge fan of the current 2er coupe taillights either, but these taillights of the next 2er coupe look as 90s aftermarket as it gets (assuming, of course, that they'll look like on that spy picture).

The taillights are actually what I find most annoying about most recent BMW models in general (especially X4, 8er, 5er LCI, new 4er etc.).

the B58 M2 retains the "40i" name and the hybrid B58 M2 retains the current "45e" name...

while the the B58 O2 is bumped to "45i" and the new B58 O2 hybrid gets the "M50e" badge.

Hopefully if that's the way it goes, it comes across less "weird" IRL.

TMI? I think M245i speculation is an updated version of the B58D and M2 speculation is the S58. Correction/clarification welcomed!!

Would you guys prefer BMW go even higher in numbers like 245 or stick with 240 and add a t for turbo? I really think it's bs that they keep increasing the numbers. I understand the cars are getting more powerful, but a 4 pot should not be called x30 and 6 cylinder should not get near x50+ territory. People start confusing it with a V8 which it is not!!!!

Agree number game is getting ridiculous. Apparently Mercedes increased their numbers because owners that were leasing didn't like that the numbers on the back of their cars were going down as turbocharging became widely adopted. Back in the day I got a F10 535i loaner and someone asked me how I liked the 3.5L V6 in the car 🤦 I had so much explaining to do for them.

Amen. If they screw this up, it may be a bridge too far for the company. Can't imagine the loyalists staying. I think this will be nice though. 🤞🏻

I never cared for the current 2 series tail lights but I'm not sure these ones are an improvement. Hard to win if you are BMW as if the lengthen and narrow them the disgruntled BMW fans will just say they copied Lexus.

The number increase has more to do with marketing than anything else, just like the use of M badges on non-M cars. Make the new model an M245i and it's automatically "5" higher than the older models. In the end all they care about are sales, they'd call it U&ME69 if it would sell more units.

It's funny because it's so true; most people outside of this forum, don't see beyond the number or badge on the back..

So I understand BMW's logic behind the number increment.

Notwithstanding that this doesn't look like any Honda at all, why is it necessary or relevant to talk trash of another manufacturer in a thread about the G42?

Seems like a trend. The new 4 series coupe is also heavier.

Not to mention incredibly long. Growing about 7+ inches to almost 190 inches - same size as an E-Class Coupe! I have a feeling they will make the new 2er close to the size of the outgoing 4er.

The 4 series is the new 6er by size alone

And basically the upcoming 2er coupe is replacing the outgoing 4er

I am so confused, if thats the 2 series what is this. Bmw has wildly different versions for gran coupe and regular coupe? Since when and why? Or is bmw just going to redesign a car that is not even out yet?
