Yes it does. I have been looking at the GT-Line (e-AWD). I am not interested in a Tesla (I admire what Musk has done but I don't like the man and the 3 and Y vehicles make one look to the side to even see the speed one is driving. I have a very comfortable, loaded 2018 BMW 530e with GEICO MBI to carry me to the end of 2024 so I figure to wait a while for the charging infrastructure to improve. By late 2023 or 2024, I figure there will be lots of vehicles to choose from (I actually have a refundable deposit on a Lucid Air Pure). Hopefully the BMW options won't be ugly.

I think the Koreans are doing an awesome job of EV engineering - great design, really efficient miles/kWh and they have a home turf advantage with LG Chem who realistically is the main competitor to Tesla on a pure battery performance/engineering front. But, like the Ioniq 5, while I dig the overall EV6 design, they are pretty damn big (probably moreso than you realize) - well into crossover territory. |

Eh, the Kia is into crossover territory but - it's not that big, just looked and it's almost identical to my X3 which isn't a big car. Then again everything is getting bigger, so if you're looking for a small EV your options get pretty limited especially if you want it to be reasonably fun or luxurious even a bit. Seems the BMW i40 is actually longer than the Kia.
Any battery gets worse in the cold. I have experience making batteries but haven't kept up w/ what the different manufacturers are using these days as tweaks of the same basic concept. Every EV will be worse in the cold, but - maybe the KIA is even worse than the rest. I get the feeling that what you're looking for doesn't exist yet. It's not impossible, just doesn't exist yet. |

Yeah batteries will always lose capacity in the cold, affecting some slightly more than others, and different systems will do a better job of heating them up more quickly/efficiently/preliminarily.

Besides the cold, batteries also lose charge capacity over time. One cost that is not mentioned in EVs is the battery replacement 7-10 years down the road. Current assumption is batteries will get cheaper, but it is a huge cost and may eat up any savings gained in the first 3-5 years over an ice car.

I don't mean to start a big argument, but EV batteries, typically, don't need replacement in 7 - 10 years. I think the prospect of it is a legit factor, but not the assumption it'll need replacement in 7 - 10 years.

Not arguing, but it also assumes people will keep an EV that long too.

We're 3 months in with a Volvo Pure Twin and it's has been nothing short of fantastic. I would not want a pure EV fleet but a nice addition to the stable and very pleased at the price point. Drives surprisingly well and wifey is loving it.

I've seen a few Ioniq 5 on the road. They look sharp. Used to think the Mach-e was the best of the bunch. It still looks muscular and athletic. Can't deny that the Hyundai/Kia twins are taking the EV stage by storm with good solid products.
Where I am, Teslas have become the Corolla of sedans. Too damn common of an already ugly car. I look forward to more BEV/PHEV products in the coming years. |

That is my problem with the Polestar. If it had about 300 miles of range, I would go for it.

Tesla’s are super models compared to the absolute atrocity that every other electric vehicle has been up until the last 1~2 years. Like them or not, we very much have them to thank for that (and a lot more).
