Interesting replies on whether it's a good idea to have all this power for a street legal car. Coming from the motorcycle frame of mind, this has always been a thing with sport bikes. The power to weight ratio of sport bikes have always bested the vast majority of cars. Even old sport bikes will still out run most cars on the market today. My 2004 ZX-10R weighs in around 375lbs and has about 178HP. No electronic nannies and a short wheelbase. Talk about a widow maker in the true sense of its definition. My 2022 S1000RR weighs in at 435lbs and has about 205HP. I think the current Aprilia RSV4 is pumping out around 215HP. There has always been stories of some squid getting a Darwin award. But so far it hasn't been a major issue.
I'd think cars such as this C8 ZR1 would root out most of the hot heads with the price of admission. I figure those that are actually going to purchase this type of vehicle would be a collector/cars and coffee whore or one that actually does track time and knows how to actually use the performance. |

Money doesn't mean you have skill or self control. That said, these will likely be locked down in terms of power and understeer like crazy like every other C8 to reduce the number of windows created.
The bike thing is interesting. Jet skis similarly haven't really had big changes for like 15 years. The coast guard limits their speed to 70 mph anyways, so no Ody really.pushes the limit for power past 300 too much. And yes, if you're a googan with more money than brains you can easily kill yourself at that speed. |

Imagine if he had his way and made a mide gone Corvette in the 70s, before driving aids, good tires, etc. It's have been a total widowmaker, and been cancelled for a variety of reasons well before it could become a legend. |

There are already clowns on the Corvette forum wanting a seperate service section at dealers for their C8 like they own an exotic and/or are better than other people. SMH

Have a soft spot for Corvettes. Electron Blue C5 Z06 was my first car in high school and I've had all the good ones since...but I could no longer stand the people, nor did I want to be associated with that demographic any longer. I really just don't fit in.

They have been wanting Corvette to be it's own brand for many many years, nothing new.

I imagine it has more to do with wanting mechanics who are well-versed in their specific model to do the work. Does even a base model C8 share anything with other Chevys anymore? If i spend 100K to 200K on the car of my dreams, not sure I want the all-purpose guy working on my car, either.

As someone who has done all his own automotive work for 5 decades, including electrical diagnosis, I am undaunted. But, I still wouldn't want the new guy working on my ride.

I owned a Chevy once, for about three days. It was a behemoth of a station wagon that I bought for $50. My brother-in-law saw it and offered to trade me straight up for his 1967 Cougar XRT with 289 4-speed. He was starting a painting business. I jumped on it.

What's crazier about this 1064hp number is that some guy is going to buy one and be like "it needs more power"
I'm sure the younger me would have been all about this super Vette, but these high powered 500hp+ cars do absolutely nothing for me anymore. I like cars that I can really push on B roads, have fun with, and beat on. huge power does nothing for me nor do I find it desirable anymore. Also, these C8s look like kit cars. The back half is all sorts of wrong. The Z06/E-Ray/ZR1 certainly are major improvements with the overall body styling, but as a whole, the styling is disjointed, excessive, and over-styled. There's not a clean line on the car. The car will not age well, just like the C7.
