You should try driving a 392 Wrangler and report back to tell us how much fun you didn’t have. I’ve driven a lot of cars. There are not many that I would choose over the 392 for a daily. And I have an FF and 991.1 GTS, still wind up driving the 392 most days.

Sell your soul for the money. Make something for everyone, no matter how ridiculous.

Yeah, I feel very strongly that companies like Porsche and BMW have compromised themselves, their history, and reputation to appease a larger audience in order to make a buck. It's sad to see where these companies are now and their current line-up.

Even Ferrari's gotten into it, because it keeps the lights on the cars for the enthusiasts.

Its funny to hear the hate on the performance SUV market. The fact that people who love Porsche 911's or anything in their lineup should be thanking the Cayenne for saving the brand from bankruptcy. If anything, the cayenne saved Porsche lol. So if you like RSQ8's, Urus, Bentayga, and even a Touareg then stop hating on the Cayenne. Customers want something, and its obviously selling. Urus is one of the highest selling (volume) Lambo units, and so many others are now following suit (Aston, Ferrari, to name a few).
Its a great SUV, I am biased though because I haver a 9Y0 GTS, and I absolutely love it. Buy what you like and have your opinions, but just understand others will have theirs too. What YOU drive doesn't make ME happy. |

Yup, and that's 3/4 of most forum members. They are keyboard warriors that have watched far too many YouTube reviews and jump on the bandwagon. I won't talk shit about a vehicle until I've driven it (usually more than once), and even then, anything I say isn't gospel and is completely subjective.

The Cayenne didn't save Porsche from bankruptcy, the first gen Boxster did that. With the improved sales and cash inflow, Porsche decided it needed to break into the lucrative SUV market thus Porsche taking the existing VW Touareg platform and glamming it up into a "Porsche".

I don't have to drive a car to know I don't like it whether it be the concept/design, the looks, performance, etc. I'm pretty sure most in this thread know that they wouldn't like owning a Prius even if they haven't driven one. Just because a Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT is crazy fast, handles and stops great, looks like a Porsche, has great fit and finish, etc. doesn't mean I don't find it pointless, silly, and completely lacking in "utility".

Right so, you’re basically saying my job is invalid because you don’t need to drive a car to form an opinion on one. This is good to know, it will save a lot of time.

When Porsche went public, that's when the brand really went to crap, IMO. Anyone that was with a privately held company knows that things tend to go crap once a company goes public and/or are acquired by private equity. It's all about stock price and the shareholders. Going public forces companies to grow, grow, grow, and that ultimately comes at a big price. Tesla is a great current example.

It's a fact.
In the early 1990s, Porsche had one car for sale in the US, the 911. The 924/944/968 were gone. Sales in the US were under 15k compared to 50k back in the mid-late 1980s. Porsche was on the verge of bankruptcy. They saw the success of the Miata and decided to design an affordable mid-engine car that went back to their roots, the Spyder. They developed Boxster concept in 1993 and people loved it. They hired ex-Toyota personnel to help them make their manufacturing process more efficient. The Boxster came to market in 1996 as a 1997 model. It was a huge success and out sold the 911 year after year and their improved production efficiency made them way more profitable. The Cayenne didn't save them, it just made them even more profitable because they tapped into the non-enthusaist and female market (a vast majority of Cayenne's are owned by women, something like 70/30) and the company also learned how to badge re-engineer a VW product. |
