This engine seems really promising for sure, mod potential for this engine will be insane...the next generation N55 will probably be pushing close to 340 HP stock.

I myself will be trading in my Evo for the next 1 (or 2) series with this engine when it comes out.

I too would lament the disappearance of the 6. Inline 4 engines are not as balanced. Unless some magical balancing act has been discovered. My 2.3 L 4 cyl E30 M3 was a buzz bomb. I prayed for the BMW in line 6. Prayers were answered in the 3.0 L DOHC 6 cyl, E36 M3. Smooth as a babies button.

I think it will be a good thing. Infinite just started to make a lesser version of the G35. The G25 is 218hp and 187tq. The newer smaller engine from BMW would be a great option for 1 and 3 series.

Can't wait for this engine to trickle down into the sportier cars. Good power in a lighter more compact engine.

I really like the idea of a 4-cylinder turbo engine in a BMW with a decent price. I'd gladly have this engine ///M-odified in the 1M as it would be more of a spirutal successor to the E30 M3 for example. Can't wait to drive one!

Looks very promising in papers, but I have doubts about durability... 2 turbos, hp pump, valvetronic + vanos all in one. There are many things i really like - power, consumption and ron = 91. But x28 badge is really dissapointing in 2.0 car....

these are great numbers. both hp and torque figures are better than the N52. very promising! hopefully it won't be hindered by some hpfp issue

Looks like this will be one of the perf engines powering the new F20's and F30's (x28i designated). I just hope BMW keeps the N52 around.
Does this engine have a SINGLE turbo with dual scrolls? Like the N55? Or two turbos? Like the 123d has? Dackel |

Very nice.
And I am sure our aftermarket friends will be able to dial in more power for those who want it on these engines.

Excellent news!!
I am sure many will miss the pureness and smooth power delivery of the old 3.0L I6 but that engine was way past its time. The new turbo 4 will have considerably more torque at a lower RPM and a slight bump in HP all with improved efficiency and fuel economy. I am sure this engine will be excellent for around town driving, what's not too love? Oh wait, BMW is considering FWD cars but that's a different story... |
