Didn't have this fella till I was 38. He's now ten with two little brothers. I'll let you do the math. Oh, and wifey is ten years younger.

35 and it is way, way too late. What we forget is we usually want more than one kid, so my second was just born and i am 39, that's too damned old. He will be 11 and i will be 50. I'd suggest starting at 30, absolute latest.

EDIT: Disregard the below - in subsequent post, it was demonstrated that I cocked up the math (or the interpretation of the story problem, anyway).

So... 28 and 18... Trying to decide exactly how to feel about this... as the father of a (almost) 17 year old.

No he was 38 and she was 28. Now he's 48 and she's 38 since the kid is 10.

Even with the fancy graphic, I f***ed it up. hehe... that makes me feel WAY better, for what it's worth. Carry on, I can release my clutched pearls now.

haha it's perception...it did take us 3X. And it's funny...earlier in life you are trying not to, and worried, then you are trying, and worried.

And when you decide you are, it's incredible how jacked up we are waiting for the results. and how disappointed when it doesn't go our way. I even hoped the hpt was inaccurate (it's accurate, even if you did the dollar store one lol).

But the joy of knowing the game is on, is pretty incredible...good luck all....

oh and congrats, oddly, child delivery/birth is a very pleasant experience in every way through the health care system...

Your age does not really matter too much: perceived "too young" or "too old" is only that - a perception.

Good parenting depends very much on your overall life goals and your commitment to your children, irrespective of the relationship that you have with the mother / father of the children. Your age really should not factor at all. You can be a good parent at any age - the attitude and commitment that you set out with, is the key aspect - both for the well being of your child and for yourself.

Cheers.
I agree, however, while age technically doesn't matter much, maturity level and experience absolutely does. I'm a much better father to my 6month old than I ever was to my 21 year old when he was an infant.

Yep I agree! Hpt is hormone count right? In our case it's a positive sign that it's doubling per day. Too early to see anything in ultrasound but there was a small pocket of fluid so we're not trying to get excited until we know it's a healthy one. Going in again next Wednesday for another check up.

It's been a while, but I thought that with home tests, it's possible to be negative in that you can't detect it yet (too soon), but it's not possible to detect positive, and for it not to be the case....

I was just very surprised how pleasant the entire process was, through the health care system. I was not expecting that. And back then my wife had really good insurance, $250 deductible, 90/10 coinsurance, and $1000 max out of pocket. haha that is a pipe dream today for us (got $4,500 deductible and HRA). My wife was considered high risk and we had weekly ultrasounds at the end with non-stress tests, and it was all covered and free! People were really nice at the hospital to include the doctor who delivered....

Hope you get continued good news...stay positive!

Thanks. Yeah her benefits seem good. No payments so far for all prenatal care.

Was confirmed at home and at the hospital twice. Hoping for some good news next week. She already started talking about my car and track habits.

Not a good sign

IMO, early 20s or younger = too soon (your sake in maturity). Beyond 40-45 = too old (for kids sake as they age)
My husband I knew each other. We also were clear on never having kinds. Ever.

Now then my closest female relative started acting up health wise and her fertility treatments had to shut down because she started to develope cancer looking tissue in her womb.

A few weeks later my system and my body started to feel off. My big plan of never having kids flew out the window the second my doctor told me "you might want to hurry if you want any. Your family issues are inherited ones and you clearly all respond to treatments badly."

I was pregnant in a month.

It isn't age alone. I was 24 when I had my first. Both of our families would've helped us financially, but we decided to make everything on our own. I will never tell anyone to wait on having kids.

If you wait until you're "ready", you'll never have kids.

I didn't feel ready at all but my wife and I had our daughter when I was 32 (by two weeks) and she had just turned 30. We didn't feel ready for #2 either but he arrived 22 months later. We both want to have a third but she would probably have to quit her job to make it doable and my wife is one of those people who needs to be working. The car situation also gets a little harrier with a third. Protocol seems to be either a true minivan (yuck) or a giant SUV.

My kids are the best thing that has ever happened to me.

My wife and I are both 34. Had our first when we were 31 and our second at 33 (older one is almost 2 and a half, younger one almost 8 months) .

I think the timing is pretty good. I'll still have quite a few years of kicking my boys butts in whatever sports they play for many many years
