I think my issue with this is the HUD. I think BMW is missing or misinterpreting what makes a HUD so great: Simplicity, focused, less distraction.
I don’t really want all these things being displayed on the windshield. It seems distracting, and not really what I want from a HUD. And the augmented reality seems even worse of an idea in that context. The caveat to that is, this concept is probably heavily influenced by eventual self-driving, which suddenly makes the HUD and augmented reality a bit more in this world. That said, in the promo videos they were clearing showing them driving the vehicle with hands on the wheel, even with augmented reality on. I think if you take this as a concept for what is actually realistically possible within the next decade, I think it works well. This was a tech showcase of tech they will use in their NK cars, not necessarily how exactly they will be implemented or in what intended situations. I don’t expect the 3 series in 2025 to feature this exact implementation of technologies. We might see though expanded HUDs, additional augmented reality features, etc. |

Car looks great. The front end, the rear and profile. All nice. Interior - nice. Like they can make a nice car, we all know. Has bit of a Lotus Bond Car vibe to it, love it actually.
Its not a car though in a sense that we use it. Eh... how you say... talk to you congressman-woman.

I can't help but see the "Maserati Ghibli / Maserati Ghibli Cup" in this design.

Putting aside the minimalist, anodyne design and the ridiculous technology gimmickry... It seems as though BMW is recognizing (not surprisingly) that when cars are stripped of ICE powertrains and traditional, cockpit-oriented interiors, they become exceedingly bland, commoditized, and cold. And so now they try to fill that vacuum with a "digital emotional experience" that helps reconnect with customers.
But I find this all pretty terrifying and sad.

I mean, I hate MUSK as much as anyone else, but I have to say the S still looks pretty damn nice after all these years. Question is why do all EVs from other manufacturers must look like dense RETARDS? Daforks going on?!

One of those cases where just because you can you shouldn’t…. are drugs legal in Germany? BMW designers have been on sone hard stuff for a while now.

Frank Weber, member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for Development. “Whoever excels at integrating the customer’s everyday digital worlds into the vehicle at all levels will succeed in mastering the future of car-building.”
They completely lost their driving focus for the future… Whoever manages to build cars that are still fun to drive, when you want to do so, will suceed in car building… But everyone will build some fancy digital worlds on 4 wheels, and there are many companies that will do this better than a traditional car manufacturer. |
