I'd be guessing electronics/entertainment/nav which are more prevalent on the high end vehicles; I know Acura's suite took a nosedive.

Um, yes. MB actually made a strong showing; it has been getting creamed on quality for years, mainly, as has been alluded to both in article and comments, on basis of electronics issues. S-class has repeatedly been "much worse than average" in CR reporting which I think is closer to real world than JD initial as far as real problems go.

MB is better quality than BMW in my experience. My mom has had the same MB for 20 years now, and the only issue she ever had was her windshield wiper stopped working (220k miles). Sure that could be a unique occurrence. However, my father owned a number of BMW's over the years and each one has had major problems. So yes, I would agree that MB is a more reliable brand. I would hands down pick MB over BMW for a car I was going to keep a long time.
And sorry AMG over M as well for reliability too. I am still a huge BMW fan, but wouldn't keep one past warranty. |

shocked Porsche is so high but Audi is just average, don't they share a lot? This is dependant on surveys though, right? so the "human factor" is involved, which can mess with the data, |

nissan is shit, i had to replace the interior door handle on my GF's car at 40k, the plastic that retains the cable cracks and then you can't get out of the vehicle unless you replace or roll down the window...

Whenever a new model is released the numbers usually tank. These ranking are useless for the most part as far as "reliability" is concerned. JD can't even get their narrative correct....I see more Jeep's and Infinity's on the road than most names on the list.... buyer's don't seem to be avoiding the worst on the list. The last 4 people I know to buy new cars bought a Q50, a Wrangler and 2 Grand Cherokees.

Audi is the surprise here, I've owned an Audi before...didn't have any problem that I should mention except adaptive headlights failure...it's barely above average on the list!

IIRC, there have been years where Porsche beat Lexus and got the #1 spot to themselves

As they mentioned, electronics are becoming the biggest problem areas. For most of those company's, the higher end version ie: Acura and Infiniti, are loaded with more tech therefore more to break and decrease reliability
