Nothing. Mercedes stopped all development of the car in June or July. They calculated that RBR would catch them back in October but we know what happened since then.

Congrats to Max on the pole. His 3rd? 5 years in a top team and 3 pole positions. Lol!

HONDA improved the RB16"s top speed . That's what MAX showed today .
It's pretty simple , just give MAX a faster car and he shows us how fast he actually can be..
Last night MAX requested to change the cars setup to improve the speed in sector 3.
HONDA said the '21 PU shows very promising performance numbers..

The Merc's "Magic" was still present and very close today . Hopefully we can watch tomorrow during the race (finally) a close battle in the front .

Interesting, slightly ominous radio message from Toto to BOT to start the final Q3 run.

Here's the lap with telemetry. Beautiful progression brake-throttle throughout. Interesting to see him braking and decelerating all the way through the T5 & T6 chicane. Not what I would have thought, need to have a think about that.

It's the DRIVER and NOT the car ?
As we can see where the poor George (RUS) ended up today...
Last week he could have won the race , that's actually mind blowing and it shows how much advantage the Merc W11 has !
Honestly , I still feel sorry for the poor George Russell . Damn ..It's just heartbreaking to see him on P18 today !
The Williams was today 3 full sec. slower . That's how important the car is !

No way , that's BS ! The RB16 top speed is improved ..As we know this track has a 2 + km long straight , that's where the Mercs are usually 17 km/h faster ..
This track is a Merc track , for sure !
But today MAX was faster in his RB16 . That's why MAX took the pole today !
In the Merc W11 he would do it as well...

McLaren at P4 and P6 is awesome.

LEC outqualifying his teammate VET....one would hope that VET would have found a way forward at his laste start with Scuderia Ferrari.

It's not strange. They announced it several months ago.

George is in the slowest or 2nd slowest car on the grid. Lewis is in the fastest. Comparing the results is insane. All of these drivers are within 90% of each other on baseline. I expand this from 93% to 90 because of Latifi and the new drivers. Using Lewis as the standard, I'd put VER, LEC and RIC at 97, with NOR, SAI, and VET being at 96% and the rest in the 93% to 95%.

The difference in HAM vs all others is that no other driver in this era has a 14 year stretch of success and when it is all over a 17 or 18 year stretch at the sharp end of the grid. That is a LONG time. As Sainz has said,"90% of the drivers could win in the Mercedes, however 90% of the drivers also could NOT beat HAM equal cars. This assertion has been proven throughout his career. HAM has lost 2 seasons in 14 seasons to 2 WDCs and beat the 2x WDC who effectively retired MSC in his rookie season with 9 podiums in his first 9 races.

Anyone who thinks HAM is average or thinks that someone else on that grid is his equal is more than a little biased. It's OK to be biased but it isn't ok to make up facts to fit a narrative. Everything I say can be validated through 3rd party sources.

On the top speed...the Mercedes isn't and hasn't been 17kph faster than the Honda engine since it was in the McLaren. This is a false narrative designed to give RBR a pass. The facts are that RBR has almost half a billion dollars to spend on their car. They haven't spent it well or wisely AND the have the best car designer in the history of Formula One as their chief designer. They just aren't getting the job done. This is occurring on so many levels...it isn't just one thing.

And you can't say that Max would take pole in the Merc because he only has 3, including the 1 today after 5 years in a top car!! He doesn't have the 1 lap speed HAM can produce. He never has, he never will. It's just a fact.

I look forward to HAM winning from 3rd. We shall see if VER can hold his nerve at the start.

I relied on David Coulthard's post-quali interview when he said it was VER's first pole?? Is that what he said?? Or is this VER's first pole of 2020. I researched it and this is VER's third pole.

The year was "2014"
Never before in F1 the Merc power advantage was so huge by the PU "Hybrid"-era in 2014 .
It was there in 2014 my friend , where the knot was tied ! Merc took there 6 years of advantage .
The rest of the teams ? They were nowhere ! Not even in Merc's sight !
HAM had just to drive with the advantage to be a World Champ . Of course his driver skills are also outstanding , that's what we NOT can see from Bottas in the same car ...
We /I saw what Russell was able for in HAM's car . Sadly he didn't got the luck on his side..
And just look where Russell is today ! From the moment you can drive in the Merc W11 , the advantage is enormous !
HAM didn't got opposition . Yeah Rosberg , that turned out as Toto said in Star Wars .
And today came MAX in a slightly faster RB16 ...And that he showed us today !
Bottas and Albon must go ASAP !
