Yes, I watch that speech as well as the one about going to the moon.

A few years before the wall came down, on a train to Hamburg (on a Nato deployment) I told the gentlemen's that was sharing the cabin, that soon they will be reunited with East Germany and they said it would never happened.

When I called one of them on the 10 of Nov 89, he was speechless.

......because I'm alive.

My wife and I were in a horrible car accident in 2012 and the experts said we should not have made it. After several years of physical therapy and time to get my head back on sort of straight, I'm doing great. We were at our son's house yesterday for a pool party and a BBQ and I'm sitting there watching both kids and all 6 grand kids playing in the pool. I thought to myself, I could have missed all of this if we hadn't been so lucky.

I was always a pretty positive person, but our close-to-death experience really made me rethink and assess what's important in life.

Just to be a human being on this amazing planet is like winning the lottery every day. Having had the opportunity to work my ass off and have a great career, amazing family, wonderful friends, and a healthy (I think) perspective on the world and my place in it, makes me feel lucky, happy, and grateful each and every day.

I took a scenic drive up California coast highway 1 today for lunch and just passed 300 miles on my new set of Michelin Super Sports. Heh!

I left Germany on the Sunday before they opened the gates in Berlin. If I had known there was any chance of that happening, I would have stayed for the party. Can't believe I missed that.

Is the 1 open, or are you talking north of Big Sur (landslide)?

It was a good day. Did my 10k and another one on the MTB with Talii hooked-up to the springer. RTE for lunch. Cleaned-up the perennial beds. My lawn care contractor did the first cut of the season and left me two bottles of wine. Nothing else on the agenda except curling-up in my PJs with a book, a bag of chips and one of those bottles.

TTFN Peeps.

I had plan to do my first cut, but this morning it was -2°C (28.4°F) with snow on the ground. 2 weeks ago it was 24°C (75.2°F)

TWO turkey eggs hatched this weekend This morning the little peepers are still peeping around.

My wife made 2 pots of posole (see the dinner thread) Took a bunch to my cousin who is doing chemo, then later my little brother and his fiancé came by our house for dinner.

We've lived here for 19 years and tonight was the first time we heard tornado sirens. It was a good day because all that nastiness passed well to the north.

We set a new high water mark for solar production this year. Lets see if we can beat it tomorrow.

Friday was a good day here, for a similar reason. The last reactor at the nearby Indian Point nuclear plant was officially shut down for decommissioning. We don't have tornado sirens in these parts, but we do (now did) have "Homer Simpson" sirens that thankfully have never sounded other than for periodic tests.....
