Here in Canada food is somehow regulated unlike the USA. We don't have as much variety of food versus the USA but we do have some fat asses around especially in the office.
There are many factors beyond calories in calories out. This method does work but will vary with people to people. |

Yup, and eating is 80% of it.. Eat portions no bigger than what you could fit in your two hands, bowled, that's all you need to do. And otherwise if you want to eat, a LOT, you'll need to sustain a high level fitness regime..

Just because the government regulates portion sizes, it doesn't prevent people from getting fat or the fat continuing to be fat.
I know I have ordered a couple burgers or a couple meals before at a restaurant. It just costs a little more to continue to eat |

I carb cycle to keep my metabolism up and stay leaner... best days are high carb days . ...donut days
Google Leptin people... skinny fat people typically are too focused on losing weight and not eating/lifting optimally. |

I seem to disagree with a couple people on here. I think exercise can definitely compensate for bad eating habits. I also think that good eating habits can nearly negate a non-active lifestyle.
The best is when you combine them. I also have a friend that is incredibly obese. She eats like a mouse and runs 5 miles a day. Some health condition that I cannot remember but it is impossible for her to lose weight. I feel bad sometimes cause I run less, eat WAY more and am pretty fit.

If one is content with being unfit and at a "healthy weight" a good diet is all they need. If one wants to be fit and not worry about weight, plenty of exercise is all they need. If one wants to be a healthy weight and fit, a balanced diet and regular exercise is the prescription. If one wants to be a healthy weight and exceptionally fit, they need a diet tailored to their goal and exercise regimen.

After ~35 years of age, men begin suffering gradual decline in testosterone, that continues until death. Decline in testosterone leads to fat gain, decline in sex drive, loss of lean body mass, hair loss, increase in estrogen levels, psychological and emotional changes, and a wealth of other issues. Men and women both have it bad, but both are so different to say one sex has it worse than the other. |

Men, physical fit especially, can mitigate some of those things, but women really can't.

I do think it's worth while to talk about those distinctions. Lots of info gets twisted around these days. Like the 80/20 diet thing. People think that means to lose weight it's 80% diet and 20% exercise. It's not, that 80/20 saying is in reference to good health. The ratio between diet and exercise to achieve good health is 80% diet and 20% exercise. Losing weight is 100% diet. Being fit is 100% exercise. At a small point in the middle, the diet and exercise circles overlap and things start to work on a macro level. If one needs to lose 15 or more pounds, they'll be fully in the diet circle for a few months with the actual time focusing solely on diet varying with how much weight they need to lose. If they have no intentions of every being fit through exercise, they'll remain in the diet circle to control their weight and health. If someone is at a healthy weight, but wants to get fit, they will focus all their efforts in the exercise category for a few months until they begin to build a fitness base. At that point, diet will begin to play a larger role in how well they can perform while exercising. This is that macro area of diet and exercise overlap.
