Then he decided this one looks like it would taste good. I had to drop the phone and run him down but he gave it back and no cats were inured.

If I get a puppy how can I ensure that it won't touch even an inch of the car's interior? Is there some doggy cage so I could travel with the little guy but not get slobber, scratches, hair, germs, etc. all over my pristine (I detail it 5 times/yr) interior?

Also, how do ya'll ensure your house doesn't get dirty? The idea of taking a puppy for a walk then having some same paws inside my house disgusts me. Keep wet wipes at the door?

You DO NOT want a dog and no dog should have you as an owner.

I'd probably suggest the stuffed kind. No need to take them out for a walk even, so no chance they get dirty. I'd say this would be the ideal match for you.

But they are so cute. I would only get something the size of a Havanese cuz they are less dirty.

We have found the perfect pet for you. It will never shed in the car, the house, anywhere. And as an added bonus you can wipe it clean with a wet cloth.

It's a dog and much like children they want to get out and have fun. Part of that is getting dirty.

That being said if you get a dog that is midsize to small < 25lbs you can get a carrier for travel in the car, on the plane and can litter box train him/her. Litter box training is great for my wife and I as when is really bad weather he does not have to go out and we also don't have to rush home to let him out. Down side, you have to clean the litter box. Here in the states they sell dog specific litter, Second Nature dog litter.

Insightful thanks. I really love dogs but in my culture they're viewed as being dirty (which they are) which is why I'm so reluctant.

Get a cat. They clean themselves, use a litter box and you don’t have take them out for walks. But you will not get the life time loyalty and friendship a dog will give you.

When I had my German shepherd he sheds all year round, his fur picks up all kinds of crap when we go hiking, he farts inside the house often right next to me, and he licks all the windows in the house and cars. But he was loyal, always greet me at the door when I come home, and he would not hesitate one bit to protect me and my family even if he had to give up his life. Since my shepherd passed away I no longer have to wake up early to take him outside, go for walks regardless of the weather, don’t have to vacuum every couple of days, my windows no longer have tongue marks all over them. But I would do everything all over again in a heart beat if it meant to bring him back. And that is the kind of bond you will get with a dog.

Been reading this thread as I have been looking with my 8-year old son for a dog for a while now. Basically been going to shelters lately. Looking for mid-size (to have some protective value), short hair breed. Hasn't been easy as the local shelters seem to be inundated with chihuahuas.
I grew up with a lot of labs and a collie--all pretty good family dogs.

Well said.

Here is my German Shorthair Pointer "Henry". Prior to getting him, my family and I had a German Shepherd so it was definitely a change for us. My dad brought Henry home one day (later we found out it was because Henry was a trained hunting dog). We do go during hunting season. I'll post some more photos later.

Henry is a beautiful dog! The only "hunting" that these two are involved in is "hunting" for another treat from mom or dad...
