It's coming out all over the world right now - the Bold. It's a GSM based device. Verizon is a CDMA based carrier. They have to redesign and install a CDMA radio on the thing and have the FCC approve it. VZW is generally always behing on BB's due to them being designed for GSM, where they can sell more units. They got a nice deal with the Thunder (possibly called the Storm, aka HalleBerry) this time and have it first. A rare thing for VZW and BB. It is the reason I left them since I'm a BB fan.

boygeniusreport.com is usally pretty good about this kind of information.

it's a damn shame BB plans for verizon are so expensive, on top of the phone which is rumored to be around 300...is it REALLY worth it if you're just a consumer using it for regular-cell phone stuff, and not a hard-core road warrior?

From BGR on the Storm (aka Thunder or "HalleBerry"):

Quote:
Here’s our latest info on the BlackBerry Storm and the fate of the device on Verizon’s network: it just went into technical acceptance at Verizon which usually takes around 3-4 weeks, and the device has been delayed internally by around 3-4 weeks while they work out the kinks (read: buggy and unresponsive) and polish it up. That puts us around a mid-November launch on Verizon. We’ve double confirmed that information, so it should be pretty accurate. Additionally, we heard from someone else that they’ve increased the marketing budget for the BlackBerry Storm just to give AT&T a little kick in the nuts for delaying the Bold so much. That’s not confirmed, still probably a little true, plus we got a chuckle out of that anyway.

Correct. And it will probably be called the Storm instead of the Thunder. I don't think VZW has even mentioned the Bold.

thats such bullshit... fucking att gets all the good phones... first they steal the fucking iphone (yeah thats right, I'm a mac fanboy ), and now they are getting the bold exclusively for a year... might as well do it for five like the iphone...... who the fuck does that? go big or go home.

I might just freaking get the thunder/ storm then... and then maybe switch over to the bold when it comes out, but by then, there will be rumors of a newer bb...

I like the full QWERTY kyb style on the bold, but turning the Thunder sideways looks cool too.

I wish screen quality was better, when are they going to improve that?

Also if ya'll are looking to switch phones, the HTC Shadow is an awesome phone. Windows ME 6.0 Wi-fi antenna built in for easy free browsing of the net and it's pretty quick too.

Wife got one with a free upgrade on T-Mobile.

a) its called an iPhone not an I-phone.
b) im not sure you've noticed, but it is soooooo much more than a phone
c) blackberry is "more made as a personal planner"? in what sense?

seems to me that you've only seen an iPhone from a distance, otherwise you would not be posting crap like this...

The iPhone will not sync with a Corporate Microsoft Exchange Email environment.
The Blackberry will.

If all you use it for is personal POP3 email, either works great.

However browsing the internet on Cingulars EDGE network blows and the same for T-Mobile/Suncoms network.

Uhm... WHAT?

I have my iPhone syncing all my mail, contacts and calendars with corporate Exchange server OVER THE AIR.

BB can not do it unless you have BB Enterprise Server or you use the desktop software to sync

No POP3 it uses Exchange DAV. iPhone 2.x firmware has Microsoft ActiveSync built in. Basically it does what Entourage (Outlook for Mac) does. It uses Exchange capabilities to sync everything via HTTPS over port 443 using webmail URL.

son of a bitch, I stopped by the Verizon store on my way back from school and the sales rep said that the release date for the blackberry storm is Nov 6th.... WTH MAN, I thought it was supposed to be this month...

Quote:
Research in Motion's latest BlackBerry device, the 9530 Storm, will not debut until November due to bugs that still need to be worked out and time needed for a formal technical acceptance process by Verizon Wireless.

The Storm was already delayed 3-4 weeks, and now will be pushed back an additional 3-4 weeks as the technical acceptance winds down. Verizon and RIM are hoping that the Storm--the company's first foray into the touchscreen arena--will become a major competitor to Apple's iPhone 3G as the holiday season dawns.
Wow... they are delaying it on purpose... they can all burn in hell
