IMO, maybe a little more complicated than that. When Max is challenged by the chassis or mechanical problems his passion is easy to see. Some drivers you need internal competition to get the most out of them. Lando and Oscar Piastri for example. That internal competition can easy turn ugly as in Senna and Prost, Hamilton and Rosberg. Max, to me, shows no sign of needing to be pushed to achieve his best results. I think Fernando Alonso has the same temperament. When you have drivers like that you are well advised not to toss a second alpha dog into the fight.

Ferrari don’t seem to care. SAI is the perfect teammate being just a hair slower than Charlie IMHO. HAM can cause nothing but trouble 👿

I think Max and the RB return to form here.

Expecting to see the biggest leap in performance for McLaren compared to last year.

Agree Monte Carlo is a one off people are making too big a deal of.

Business as usual, nothing to see here.

people forgot in 2007 Alonso the World Champion was hired to partner Lewis Hamilton in his first ever season in F1

there were crazy infighting and resulted in both Alonso and Hamilton completely level on points and both lost the championship by 1 point. (Hamilton was awarded second place on countback)

as a result the Alonso left the team

I agree that Checo ran a great race to help MAX in Abu Dhabi 2021 .
That was in 'one race and actually It's Checo's job as the #2 driver at Red Bull ...

My question for you is :
Where was/is Checo in 2022 ? 2023 ? 2024 ?

Think from previous comments there are no RBR fans here...otherwise there wouldn't be people questioning what Perez did in '23...either that or they have no memory.

In 2023 Sergio Perez finished second in the World Drivers Championship, giving Red Bull Racing their very first ever 1, 2 finish....they've been in F1 since 2005.

But Ferrari went backwards & everybody else SUCKED

I can't even remember who was second '23 was so irrelevant.

Isn't that the year Max would have won both championships without a teammate

Yes , because MAX won 19 races in 2023 .

The LEW fans and amnesia....

LEW was in the running for P2 in the 2023 WDC .
But LEW got a DNF in Qatar and LEW was DQ (disqualified) at COTA with his cheating Merc floor .

Checo was served P2 on a silver platter

Bringing money doesn't = working hard or being a great driver.

Perez is backed by fellow Mexican, billionaire Carlos Slim, who is worth $102.4 billion - and is the eighth-richest person in the world.

Perez is a pay driver like Stroll, Latifi and others.

The season when Perez was driving the most dominate F1 car in history and managed only 9 podiums.

While his teammate won 19 races in the same machinery.

Even Checo wants to forget about that season.

Checo -

2020 - 4th in a Racing Point
2021 - 4th in a RB
2022 - 3rd in a RB
2023 - 2nd in a RB

Good thing arm-chair team principal isn't a real job.

Nothing wrong with being a pay driver, Checo is the hero of Mexico with a big money punch behind him and the chance to win a race or two is always present.
