A lift is always the best choice. This is the best alternative for those without that capability. I was always uncomfortable working on my car on jack stands. On these it's rock solid, especially with the fail safes. In the beginning I would put jack stands on them as a precaution as that's what a lot of people did...but after working with the Quickjacks, I realized they aren't needed. I tried pushing and shaking the car with it fully raised and it doesn't move.

Yes..., but I still put jackstands all around for a more complete peace of mind...

I have the 5000lbs quickjack. Bought it from homedepot when it was on sale for $1150.

Very happy with it. When not in use, i store the two ramps under my M4. They lay flat and i can just drive in and out over them.

how much space do you have to spare? ceiling height? etc?

I love my QJ, and its ideal for a regular 'home sized' garage. But if youre lucky enough to have tall ceilings or extra space, that opens up a new menu of options (https://www.obsessedgarage.com/collections/lifts)

Space is what I don't have, I'm doing most of the work in my buddie's apartment complex covered parking. Can't really install a lift there, lol) so looks like quickjack is the best viable option.
On a side note, aside from storage units, what are the options for places to work on a car? Went to some diy workshop recently, and it's not a viable option economically - paying almost half of the labor rates you can find just a little further away and probably taking twice as much time makes no sense.

Are you planning on bringing the QJ with you to your buddies parking complex?

While possible, and QJ has a version that runs off a battery (you can use your car's) instead of a wall outlet, just note that the quickjack itself is quite heavy. I usually slide it across the floor to move it, definitely not the easier thing to lift given its size and weight. Hilarious cause on the QJ box, is some dude holding one QJ in each arm like its no big deal. This can be a substitute to going to the gym.

They seem to weigh 70ish pounds each, not too light, but manageable to move around occasionally. They seem to be rather long (76 inch), though and might not fit into my e90 with no folding seats.

Love the QJ. I use it a few times a year. Just makes working with the car so much more fun.
Lately I have been thinking about a 4-post lift. But I simply don't perform under car work all that much. However the added storage space would be nice.

I really appreciate having the Quickjack.
I’ve used it on a 650, M6, X5, X6, and a 750.
I forget which ones, but Pinch Weld blocks needed for some (I think for the 6’s).
For the X’s the flat blocks that come standard with the lifts fit well on the beam in order to lift.
The 6’s needed these grooved blocks in order to fit well on the beam’s pinch weld. They work great so I didn’t have ‘McGyver’ something.

I’ve lifted a F150 crew cab without issue. This guy has the lifts positioned poorly. Needs to be further back and under the y axis of the center of gravity.

I have the same truck and you can't go further back due to the way the frame starts curving up into the bed. That lift is too short.

If that is the case with the frame, then you are right and it won’t do.
I notice on my BMW’s the lift rails don’t have enough length from jackpoint to jackpoint. I just keep the rail centered and use the rubber block under the frame .

I built the building just for the lift, so I made the ceiling 14 feet (it needs just 12'). But a few reputable manufacturers make a lift for 9 foot ceilings, you have to drive over the cables and hydraulic lines under a floor plate.

There's also the Trimph C-7000/Universalift 2. I'm thinking about one of those for the next house.

Thanks for sharing. That's a nice lift and good solution for a 8 foot garage ceiling. You could permanently install the hydraulic lines by fixing them to the ceiling.
