Why dont people go after the X7 as well being slower than X5 and X6 on identical drivetrains? Because it's a different class, they shouldnt be compared. Also BMW crippled the XMs ICE on purpose so X5/6M sales wouldn't drop. A fully spec'ed X6M is 20k$ less expensive than an fully spec'ed XM, as opposed to the big difference between a base X6M and base XM.People are too ignorant to observe the fact that the XM comes with every option apart from B&W as standard and they compere base X6M prices to base XM prices which is stupid.
Look at stage1 results on the XM, 850hp at the wheel. An X5M or X6M would never be able to go hp for hp with an XM because they lack the extra 200hp from the electric motor
Because of reviews like this

Agreed, I think the XM was more like a test bed product to see how people would react. They reacted poorly, because that extra hybrid stuff ended up making it slower in the metrics.that matter on paper.

I think BMW basically got people to do beta testing of what a PHEV X5M and M5 would be like. I think they probably learned a lot from it too. Mainly that it needs to weigh less and have absurd amounts of power to counter that weight.

The XM has always struck me as being in a weird spot in the market.

The standard XM is basically the price as a Cayenne Turbo e-Hybrid while being down 85 hp (XM: 644 hp, Cayenne Turbo: 738 hp). BMW is usually considered the value-for-money performance option compared to the equivalent Porsche, so it seems to be a miss on pricing here.

The XM Label is at the same price as a G63 and getting pretty close to a Cayenne Turbo GT, depending on whether you want the iconic shape of the G-Wagen or the outright track performance in the Cayenne, so it would be a hard sell at this price point as well.

I bet they would have sold more if they gave the standard XM the Label engine with 738 hp, and made a 850 hp monster for the top end XM Label. Also, they should have put the interior of the new 7 series in with the full adjustable rear seats, theater screen, self closing doors and everything else for a wow factor.

Ehhh, there really was no market for this “XM”. It’s being proved true by it being discontinued. X5M and X6M are definitely better buys. Enjoy yours tho!

the xm wouldbhave been an ok vehicle IF... it was priced at 110-120... never had an M badge next to it.. and had slightly more conservative styling and focused more on luxury

instead we somehow ended up with a luxury M electrified suv at 150k... one that is no more luxurious than an x7, is slower than a cheaper x5m and sits in no mans land of pricing... it was kind of easy to predict this... in fact i'd be asking bmw m who approved a bespoke m vehicle to be an electric suv lol

Everyone looks at the car, everyone moves out the way on highways, kids record and take pictures and wave at you, people come up to me at gas stations to tell me how nice it looks. It really is a statement car, it has the most aura out of all BMWs.

It really does everything.
Theres no other car that can do what the XM does, maybe the Urus SE, but it's 150,000$ more
and smaller.

It's also the best sounding S68 car from factory

The XM is excellent, you either have to be ignorant, a hater or simply stupid to not appreciate it
Super big? Doesn’t even have 3 rows. Love the looks but unless it has 3 rows it’s not a worthwhile SUV at that price point.

I think it is overhated. However, in some ways it doesn't meet the mark of what I'd expect from a super SUV (I say this having never driven one)

- For it's size and weight, I really wish it had 3 rows, like the X7.
- BMW has no SUV's with the rear-seat amenities of the 7 series. The XM was a missed opportunity here IMHO. No rear massaging seats, etc. Not just the Urus and Bentagya, but even low trim Cayennes can option this.
- It seems silly that it doesn't have B&W standard. At its price point it honestly is a bit silly that it doesn't have everything possible standard.
- The base trim probably shouldn't exist and they should've just released the Label.
- Even the label is completely outgunned performance-wise by the Turbo GT & Urus. Straight line, track, everything. One would expect better from the flagship M.

It's an interesting package. It has presence. I can appreciate it being a great experience to drive and ride in. But it's appeal and price tag make it very niche.

BMW bean counters played the early adaptors like a fiddle who payed full MRSP to boost their DYKWIA ego. Even the label had a name change from the original red. Was looking forward to the blue label.

Amazing that the XM lasted less than 3 years from the November 2021 concept reveal. Market release was April 2023, car was killed off less than a year on market. There will be no LCI for XM as BMW will cut their losses. BMW even thew in “free” individual colors and that still didn’t work to move metal. The 50th Anniversary of M bestoke will go down in history similar to the New Coke.

While acknowledging all drivers who like their XM vehicles, BMW isn’t in the business of selling vehicles that don’t sell.

The market is sending a message to BMW product planners. Let’s collectively hope they are listening.

They'll misread it as it needed more beaver teeth and more electric. Or that it.flopped because they didn't price it enough to compete against bentayga.

They are a flop. Successful selling vehicles don't have $17,500 lease incentives. In addition to most dealers giving 10%+ off msrp.

Right, and at ~$190k I’m gonna need a cool 40% off

You buy it either because you want an efficient M car and you have a big family, or for the same reason someone would buy a G class for. The XM is not comparable to an X7, it's like comparing a 318i to an M3 competition.
I am not sure if I personally would care about efficiency when I am dropping that much amount of money on a car, gasoline or electric bill from charging is not even a decision making factor.

What does efficiency look like if I may not have caught the context correctly….

I have have been driving an XM for a year as my daily, 26,000 miles on the clock, 3 sets of tires and it’s an amazing car.

I also have an X3MC, the XM is a special car, comfortable and fast. I have driven it from LA to SF 6 times and it’s very comfortable. The same drive in my X3MC is a bit different
