Who cares about lineage. I am not going to buy a Ford Mustang because they made good ones in the past... doesn't change the fact that they are peices of crap now.

Same with Hyundai, they used to be crap but the quality has skyrocketed recently... so what if they don't have a good history.

I believe that you have to start somewhere, no matter who you are.

I totally agree with you. Take the new Hyundai Genesis for example (pics below). Styling is half-way there, it just needs to be a little more unique to stand out. It looks like a 5 series/LS rolled into 1 car. Quality shouldnt be an issue though, check the interior shots especially.

BMW is the largest and best selling luxury car company in the world. It's not as big as Toyota but it's definitely not small either. And besides, it wasn't that long ago that the Z8 was around, granted it wasn't a supercar but i don't think the LF-A will be a supercar either.

From everything ive read, you cant compare the Z8 and LF-A.

The LF-A is going to get a high reving (9000rpm redline) v10 engine pushing over 500hp with a 210+top speed, and weigh in at around 3000lbs with use of carbon fiber body panels. With this expect a car to cost well over 150k. Those numbers to me = supercar

The Z8 was as you said a nice roadster, but far from a super car.

Why do people have such a hard time accepting the fact that this Lexus might just be a damn good car, one that might actually scare the Porsche, Ferrari of the world.

BTW, BMW needs to make a supercar. I dont honestly think anything since the M1 can be considered an exotic/supercar.

I surely hope i'm not included with those people. I think the LF-A will be an amazing car and might have super car performance, but i would'nt consider it a supercar in terms of putting it up against the likes of Murcielago's and 599GTB. Just like the GTR has supercar performance, i would'nt do the same with it either. And yes i do like the LF-A and Lexus as well, but then again i like most high performance cars that are out there.

IMO the closest BMW came to creating supercar since the M1 styling-wise was the Z3 M Coupe (which we all know had supercar styling, but lacked the power), and performance-wise was the e46 M3 CSL (which we know handled like it was on rails, but lacked supercar styling and could have used a bit more power). its only a matter of time though...

What about the Z4M Coupe? It is faster and has better styling than the Z3

your confusion stems from my misintepreting "supercar" for "exotic car," and from the fact that we're now treading on opinionated, not factual ground. i suppose i meant to say that the Z3 M Coupe is the closest BMW came to creating an EXOTIC - not supercar - in a long while. so then i guess speed has little to do with it...which just leaves the styling. i disagree that the Z4 has better styling - where's the widebody look and the beautiful fender flares? where are the outrageous, yet flowing lines that invoke an exotic mystique? where are the dished factory wheels? the Z3 M Coupe has those accolades...the Z4 does not. in fact i'd say that the Z4 M Coupe is lacking some things in the styling department. i'm not saying i don't like the Z4 M Coupe, but if i had enough $ to choose one or the other on a whim, i'd take the Z3. i know how it is with the Z3 M Coupe - people either love it or hate it - there's no in between. but one things for sure, the Z4 is not nearly as outrageous and is far more toned down with regard to styling than the Z3 M Coupe.

hey, didn't this thread start out about a Lexus?

That actually looks nice... typical low wide sleek design like the old 300zx. I read somewhere that this car was built to replace the Supra... Nice re-entry!

I hope that BMW do make a supercar in the near future. If they can be the best in mid size category, why not try their hands in the super car territory.

Anyway, never say never.....hope to see a m8 or m9 or z9

as "exotic" as the Z3 M Coupe can be from one perspective, there's no denying that it resembles the old clown shoe / cock-n-balls / etc.

Lack of an F1 program leads to this:

"Toyota is still a newbie at phased stability control, and the system’s jerky digital corrections are less transparent than in other cars with driver-tunable help"
