No, not for whisky - best to store these right-side up in a cool dark room and just wet the cork a few times a year (I tip the cartons they are stored in about 45 degrees).
But for OP, if you aren't really into whisky enough to have a strong interest, you may want to see about selling it and buying whatever you ARE passionate about. All the major distilleries sell barrels, the real genius is in the selection and marriage of the various separate casks into a consistent flavor. This is some that was really old, but it may not be really good tasting (hench their willingness to sell it to Costco). Old whisky can take on a lot of off flavors in 40 years. |

I have errr should I say had a bottle of 1990 limited edition jack that had a certificate and came in its own little wooden box with the distiller and batch number. It was lost during a house move. Dad got It for me year I was born
