I'd agree with this also, but it'd need to be strictly enforced. Since it is open subject matter we might allow something up to a few weeks old (set a date) to allow for the fact that many of us travel and work a lot and might go a couple of weeks without getting out to shoot.

Dave
we could also do an extended end date to accommodate for this.....

If it's an open subject matter, I see no reason to make it strict and only allow entries that are photographed in that time period. Yeah, people go out of town, work, etc, but come on... you can shoot anything. Hell, Badger can shoot a pic of him and his mimbo out on the town, or even a sundae that they shared. Possibilities are endless...

That being said, it's up to the winner of the contest to decide if he/she wants to do something like that, and they can define the rules any way they want (to a certain extent). Part of the perks of being a contest winner, right?

if they are new and have to be taken during that time period, doesn't it already exclude previous submissions?

I voted for myself twice so I wouldn't be last.
Dave, I would have given you consideration for the same reasons as you stated but the angle you had didn't do it for me.
I was going to take a pic of the crosses in Lafayette, CA but I've been trying to work out the angle to shoot at for a year. I almost need a fisheye to do it but might have something up my sleeve.
