When I first saw the images of the car the vertical slots remind me of a boundary layer splitter plate seen on supersonic jet fighters like the F-4 Phantom II, F-14 Tomcat and F-15 Eagle. Obviously the car is not intended to drive at supersonic speeds but the aerodynamic problems may well be similar - slow, turbulent air close to the body causing vortexes in faster moving air and consequentially, increased unwanted drag. My guess coming from an aviation context is that that slot vents the air underneath the car in a low pressure area to help smooth the airflow over the sides of the chassis or alternatively they could pass the air over the radiators to create a net thrust via the Meredith Effect to accelerate the airflow further back.

It's Checo's turn today and as I expected he's hardly lit the fuse so far, behind Sargeant but then there's a red flag caused by Charlie damaging his car and LEW also with the mornings session being called off because of a faulty drain cover.

Checo's had a brake fire and maybe a power issue also so is currently third with the lights coming on in the desert track but he's done 100 laps at least.

I personally think he is a great driver and only getting better but it also doesn't hurt when the Red Bull engineers are unbelievable at what they do!

With softs at this track you can run 1.5/2 sec. faster (and in a light car)! Easely !

On the other hand : It nice to follow the lap times , but actually It's just meaningless because this is still the 3 test days .

That's right I saw it on the live leaderboard, SAI was the only one on them, the red softs marker stood well out

Unlucky Checo has run over a drain cover and the GE force lifted the cover possibly damaging the floor causing a red flag. Charlies car needed a new floor when he did the same yesterday.
