I can barely afford to look at all y'all pictures. Although, my dad's life insurance policy check just arrived . . . he bought me my first rifle for Christmas when I was 12, I still have that little .22 plinker.

Picked up a 43x MOS today since Maryland is now a shall issue state. Here's a width comparison with my 19.

It's fun to fire, and it would put a very large hole in someone, but it's only accurate out to about 200m.
And the round cap of the magazines sucks; it uses standard AR-15 mags, but the rounds go in in a single stack, instead of a double stack. So a standard cap 30 round AR-15 mag will hold 10 .458 SOCOM rounds. Basically, if dinosaurs ever come back to life, I will use my .458 AR to take them out at close range. And if I can see them from far away, I have a bolt action .338 Lapua that will also put a hurtin' on any dinosaurs. I am 100% prepared for the dinosaur zombie apocalypse.

As it has been recently brought to my attention, this is what the zombie dinosaur apocalypse will look like. Humbly, I believe only a 50 cal MOD2L will do in times like these!

If you’re lucky to find any .458 in stock for under $3/round, snatch it up.
I only have a few hundred rounds left that I bought when it was cheaper. |

Now? Fuck if I know. I bought enough ammo back in the before times that if I only shoot occasionally, I'll be fine for another year or so. Yes, I bought a lot of ammo. Yes, I know that there is no such thing as 'enough' ammo.

Just checked my email from 2019. I bought a few hundred Underwood .458 ammo when it was $1.65/round.

I still have a lot left. And I even considered selling some ammo in the more popular calibers to make some good cash (5.56, .308, 9mm). But then I came to my senses.
But my ammo supply is certainly lower than I'd like it to be right now.

And if the revolution comes I'll be useless anyway. Between surgeries and age I could not keep up with walking 20 miles a day and sleeping on the ground. This is an old picture of the ammo fort but it's pretty much the same now if I gathered it all together. it is excessive for an old man who has lost interest in shooting. Heck, all I need for the rest of my life to defend myself is a good pump 12 gauge and a few glocks. |

I work in the industry and supply many of the ammo companies, and it's not all them. Many smaller OEMs do not make a single part of the ammo - they are what we call "assemblers". These are a large part of our OEM business, but they take it in the shorts in years like this as they can't control most of their costs.
Material is (or was, dropped a shade) at an all time high and with the demand right now - there are NO deals. "You want it or not? This is the price - period". Without it we can't make our product and they can't make theirs. So we increase our prices and they have to pass it along - and do it for EACH component they buy. We have always provided a "to your door" price, but with freight fuel surcharges reaching 50% now - we had to start passing that along as well. And they, like us, have to pay it and again pass it along. It's terrible. I've been in the industry for 30 years and this is the worst one I have seen yet by a LONG shot. Even after 2.5 years of record shipping - we are still 23 months total backlog still. Are their some "ghost" order in that? You bet, but for now everything run we make goes straight out the door within days and has been like that since March 2020. We could stop shipping for 6 months and still just fill our own inventories back up - let alone our resellers. Auto handgun rounds have started to hit the wall, so 9mm, 40S&W will be more and more available finally and you are already seeing some "sales". This helps cool the "fear" buying some. But the hard to make stuff, slower sellers, and lower volume stuff (SOCOM, Bushmaster, etc) will be pricey for some time to come for sure. Primers are still an issue in the industry as well - especially large pistol primers, so expect it to stay unpleasant for the rest of 2022 for sure. Believe me - we are just as tired of it as the consumers!

Your thinking needs to adjust with your age. Someone still needs to be the General And if you have enough ammo to "supply a small army" then at least your home compound can be protected.
