Couldn't tell you about the second one Llarry but I sure had a blast in my 20s in the '70s.

I was reminded...50 years ago (7-28-73)...the Watkins Glen Summer Jam Concert...3 days, 600,000 in attendance. Yep, we were there, the memories are a bit foggy but fun.

^ I was at the California Jam at the Ontario Motor Speedway in 1974. As you said, memories are a bit foggy but fun.

Wow, amazing picture. We were at the Glen for races, F1 and the FIA 6-Hour, but did not go to the concert. We were there when the bus burned though. That might have been the last straw for us; over the years the mood at the races went from peace/love/party-hearty to belligerence/harassment of women/fighting/breaking stuff.

^ I try to get to Wacken Open Air in Wacken, Germany as time and budget allow. I've been three times and can't wait for the next trip. It's nowhere near 600k attendees (75k tickets available) but it's a hell of a lot of fun.

...when you are having appointments with doctors about age-related macular degeneration. My left eye is fine, but the right has significant damage. I'm seeing straight lines as wavy and having difficulty reading. Now I have to see a retina specialist. I've been an automotive enthusiast my whole life and -- worst case -- if I lose my driver's license... Please, doctor, go ahead and cut off my balls; Just leave me my vision.

The optometrist has given me a referral to an ophthalmologist who specializes in this stuff, and also says that he thinks there is some hope of therapy (injections?) for my "wet" AMD. I fervently hope so.

We'll be thinking good thoughts and wishing you the best outcome, Llarry.

I have had some eye problems over the years as well and a good ophthalmologist can do a lot for you. I've been seeing the same one for more than 20 years and she has kept my eyes in good health. I stopped seeing her for a bit when I switched to Medicare but I’m back with her again.

I was walking through the kitchen on Friday morning to grab a water bottle from the fridge for my drive to work. I heard a loud SNAP as I put my left foot down, like someone had broken a dried out stick. My first thought was that a floor tile had snapped. Not seeing anything wrong there, my second thought was that I was sure that something would be hurting in an hour or so. Sure enough, a sharp pain in the top center of my foot developed, along with some swelling. Spent most of Saturday with my leg elevated and off my feet. I noticed last night that I was walking club-footed with my left paw, and the pain has subsided a bit.

My DW thinks that I should go to the hospital for X-rays. I told her to check Google to see if anyone published instructions for making a DIY X-ray machine, because I think it would be a good investment as we age.....

You must be doing it wrong! Don't get me wrong, I started my 20s in the '60s but spent most my twenties in the '70s and it was a great time for sure. But, I'm having a blast now. They are complete different experiences, but being happily married with kids grown, six grand kids, and being retired and being able to do what we want, when we want and where we want is pretty fun too.

Looking at the mass of humanity in that picture, I'm left wondering where everyone did their chores. Must've been a bit rank around the edges.

Back in the 80's I went to a mega-concert (4 or 5 groups with Huey Lewis headlining it) in Nürnberg near the old stadium. The audience was penned into a huge parking lot. All asphalt. Some genius thought the best place to put the line of Porta-Potties was at the top of a slight rise along the edge of the lot. Needless to say, once the commodes started overflowing it got real nasty for anyone stuck in that area.

My DW works at a place where there are five Gen-Z employees at a counter doing customer service. There is a business phone there, that needs to be answered whenever it rings. The five of them are usually staring off into space with their personal smartphones in hand, focused on social media and not even noticing customers at the counter or answering the phone.

The local TV news this morning had a segment on Gen-Z and their fear of speaking on the phone. Carrying on a phone conversation is apparently a HUGE source of anxiety for them! It's no wonder why those people at my DW's work place all ignore the phone ringing.

Anyway, the segment ended with the suggestion that Gen-Z should pick up the phone and call their grandparents more frequently, so that they can practice conversational skills on the phone.....

I don't ever remember seeing one of these. I'm guessing it was not a best seller.

Regency HF-150, circa 1954, and the speaker as a Jensen Duette. Apparently the picture is a real promotional piece for Regency Inc, photography done by Ken Schmid Studio, dated December 1954. The turntable is a Webcor Diskchanger.

Webcor, a brand name I'd long since forgotten, and a total flash from the past.

Back in the 50s, a family across the street from us in the Inner Richmond district had a Webcor reel-to-reel tape recorder that the mother used to record performances at Grace Cathedral. That was pretty exotic kit for our middle class neighborhood.

It's hard to remember now how little in the way of consumer goods there was available 60+ years ago. It didn't matter how well off your family was, there just wasn't that much "stuff" available to buy. That's a major reason why that Webcor reel-to-reel recorder stood out.

In my senior year of high school, I bought a Sony portable open-reel tape recorder with speakers for $120 in the base exchange in the Philippines. Man, I was living large then! I believe I sold it -- just about for what I paid for it -- and bought an Akai unit the next year.

Google is not my friend on finding a photo of that first Sony TC-120 deck that I had.

In 1968, my college roommate was a guy I grew up with from age 3. He had just gotten out of the Air Force (stationed in Germany working on F-4 Phantoms), and he had a Heathkit stereo setup with a Teac 7" reel-to-reel. It's the first time I'd ever heard a decent system. One day, the local FM station said they were going to play the brand new Beatle White Album from start to finish with no commercials starting at 3am. This was days before it was officially released. We got up and recorded that amazing album on his Teac. We got finished recording and we said to ourselves, "we have the new White Album and its not even released yet....Let's have a party!" So for the next few days we had friends stop by and listen to this new album on that pretty amazing sound system. It was a special time indeed.
