It started out as a mutual combat assault/battery (…242 P.C.), but it turned into felony assault with a deadly weapon [hands/fist/feet] (…245 P.C.) after the suspect with the long hair and overalls kept punching, stomping and kneeing the other suspect in the head while he lay prone on the ground. The suspect with the long hair and overalls was charged with the felony.

Had it just remained a mutual combat fight, neither suspect would've likely gone to jail because that was a misdemeanor not committed in the presence of a peace officer. Both individuals would've had to press charges against the other for a citizens arrest to be made.

Day 1: Camper is parked on side of road, tags expired.

Day 3: same camper, still expired, in now parked on another road 1/2 mile away.

Can you then take action that the are DRIVING the vehicle on roads with expired tags? Or would the courts entertain the idea the vehicle simply levitated to the new position?

Related, at DUI checkpoints here locally, I always read reports of x DUI investigations, x driving on suspended license, but most times 0 vehicles impounded. So, if you know my license is suspended, you still let me drive off???

And then, for Cali: if my registration isn't current, doesn't it stand to reason I also lack insurance? The insurance companies have a tie into DMV records, do they not?

Expired registration is an infraction. Local law enforcement really isn't all that concerned with it. That would be more of a parking enforcement issue. Registration that is expired 6 months and 1 day (…22651(o) CVC) is subject to being towed if parked on a public street or driven on public roads. Officers are not too keen to tow motorhomes, especially if that's somebody's "home."

As for the DUI checkpoint…..

….the objective is to remove impaired drivers off of the road. People who are 12500 CVC/14601 CVC aren't the target. Sometimes we'll issue citations for those violations, but again…..the focus is impaired drivers.

P.S. Your registration and insurance have nothing to do with one another.

But, nowadays aren't they couched in terms of DUI/registration checkpoints? Something about unfairly targeting drunks?

P.S. Your registration and insurance have nothing to do with one another.
No insurance company will insure an unregistered vehicle. Certainly makes it difficult to "drive" your new construction custom motorcycle to DMV to get it inspected so you can register it . .

Speaking of registration, why do I need to keep insurance AND registration in the vehicle with me? I understand insurance, but after my plates show in my name and I have current tabs why do I also need to show registration? Cant have one without the other... Not to mention all the information thats available to thieves if my registration is in my vehicle.

If your registration is expired, it does not mean your insurance automatically gets cancelled. Trust me!

The reason is because sometimes a vehicle is cold-plated, sometimes the DMV is slow to update records, etc. I have run plates that showed expired only to find that the motorist had already paid the registration……it just wasn't updated. Case in point: I swapped the personalized plates from my M4 to my Porsche this past Tuesday morning. I have the paperwork showing the fees were paid, I was issued new plate stickers, etc. As of midnight last night/this morning my plates still come back to my old M4 with PNO status. If I were to drive my Porsche and get pulled over today, they would think the car was cold-plated…..and because it comes back to my department, it would definitely result in some questions (…if it weren't me driving my car).

P.S. The theft issue is valid, so scan a picture of your registration into your phone in the event you are pulled over.

Glad to hear the guy stomping faces felony charges. I mean I get it the other guy threw the first punch and appeared to be the aggressor. I get it you want payback. But none of that matters once he is out cold. Stomping on someone can kill them.

Agreed! ….and we always talk about how we offer our vets nothing after they've served. That is a job that presumably applies their skills to the civilian world.
If no politics is allowed on here, why is that video still posted? Wayyy political.

Indeed. He should've tempered his aggression once it was apparent the threat was over. It's L.A. County though, so we'll see what Gascon does with the charges.

Just now reading a story about a 16 year old in LA county that stole a car, and looks like intentionally hit a mother with a stroller before being stopped getting 5 months of camp.

https://www.foxnews.com/us/los-angel...m-infant-video

And my friends in California wondered why I was moving to hot hot Arizona. Wonder no more.

Oh yeah, it's absolutely ridiculous. He's eager to file on cops, but not so eager to file on the criminals we arrest.

Why is traffic enforcement practically non-existent in south Florida?

- On I95 cars routinely fly by any time of day or night in moderate traffic - in any lane at upwards of 100mph+

- From our neighborhood, far away from any turnpike / interstate, we can sit in our backyard any night and hear cars and bikes a mile away racing and hitting the top end of 4th gear and beyond on secondary roads.

Don't get me wrong, I'm no prude, but there is a difference between having a little fun and putting other people's lives in danger on public roads. This is unmistakably the latter.

You rarely see anyone pulled over and nowhere in the area seems to be off limits to regular ongoing reckless / dangerous driving. So why is it seemingly so tolerated by law enforcement?

That's a great question. The State Troopers in Florida are probably understaffed just like every other department. There's simply not enough Troopers on the road to enforce it consistently.

Multiple people were stabbed in an Encino, California hospital. The suspect became a barricaded suspect after locking himself in a hospital room. He was later taken into custody by LAPD after developing a tactical plan.

Is Cali an open carry state?

Took the wife to an Estate sale (Ventura county) As we arrive at the location, I see this line of people standing on the sidewalk. You got to be kidding me. We have to take a number, wait in line, to go rummage thru some dead people's stuff??

Anyway, the "bouncer" at the door, issuing the stickies with our number, has a pistol in his front pocket, the butt just hanging out towards his hip.

California is not an open carry state, but it is a CCW state. His firearm shouldn't have been visible if he has/had a CCW. Maybe he was an off-duty cop helping out. I know off-duty cops who do what you're describing.

I went to an estate sale here in AZ once where I had to wait to get in. Guy who died was a musician and online I could see a lot of gear I wanted for my studio. But dayum. No one was carrying that I could see. Scottsdale AZ is kinda safe though. But then, we had the ferals attack that Mercedes dealer back last year so maybe I need to rethink.

Licensed security guard can carry?

CCW, shouldn't it be concealed? Just hanging on the edge of your pocket seems . . . reckless.

Yes they can. There are provisions, but they can. Many have CCW's.

P.S. Yes, it shall be concealed, but like I said…..maybe he was an off-duty cop. We can open carry.

I'll tell you what, between unpatrolled HOA communities and public roads there is a gold mine of opportunity to crack down on the insane driving habits of Floridians. That said I am aware of the potential dangers of traffic stops and fully respect the risks our LEOs take every day. But for those with the background, training and ability to assume the risk, this could be huge for an organization that could perhaps be deputized as an extension of local enforcement and fix a huge public safety problem.
